"I think it was a timing thing. But I haven't gotten through all the details coming out of Calgary. I can tell you that (I didn't talk to Brad Treliving directly) but I was told that he was white hot. So whether that's directed at Minnesota, whether that's directed at something internally, whether that's directed at the league.
Because I can tell you this, (...) there was a logjam, there always is, but there was a jam up at central registry so maybe it was just an issue of the queue being too long. But normally what happens is as long as the trade is filed, they still honour it, you just have to go through the process. We'll dig a little deeper and find out what the backstory is but I know Calgary wasn't pleased at all."
That's literally my exact summary somebody copied, complete with the (...) and formatting.
Michael Russo, speaking on the Talk North Podcast, said he was 100% certain of the deal. He was able to confirm it through his sources and “saw the deal.” He said it was Frolik and a pick for Zucker.
Russo also took a very dim view on the deal from a Minnesota perspective, calling the return for Zucker “garbage”, so I’m not 100% convinced the pick was the 1st rounder. Friedman, on 31 thoughts, just said it was a high pick. For all we know, high pick could mean 1st rounder, but it could also mean 2020 2nd rounder. Who knows?
Russo also said he will figure out why the deal never got sent to Central Registry when he is in Calgary for Saturday’s game. I don’t know how, but he said he was certain he’d be able to figure it out.
Episode 184 of the Talk North Podcast at about the 6:58 and 24:30 mark if others want to listen...

Just listening now. Russo also says he knows the deal didn't get leaked from Minnesota's side, so it must have been Calgary or central registry.
But then he also says he has no idea how some Wild teammates knew about Zucker getting traded before it was announced.
Those 2 thoughts seem contradictory. If some of the players knew about it then why couldn't the leak also have come from Minnesota?
Russo also says Zucker's agents are pissed. Sounds like all the parties involved wanted this trade to happen.
Even a 25th to 31st overall pick plus Frolik for a 27 year old who scored 33 goals last year, is locked through his prime years on a fair contract, is a good deal IMO.
If it was a lesser pick (which I doubt) then no wonder Treliving was "white hot".

Frolik’s contract makes his trade value negligible. He wasn’t in that trade because Minnesota wanted him so badly. And a (hopefully) late 2nd round pick a year further out is worth much less than a middle 2nd rounder in the upcoming draft.

I didn't put much faith in the suggestion that this might get revisited in the summer. However, based on the bolded comment, there might be a chance that it is.
From Friedman’s 31 Thoughts Blog: “Jason Zucker didn’t fail a physical, but knows this weird feeling after his near-trade to Calgary, involving Michael Frolik and what’s believed to be a first- or second-second-round draft pick, fell through.”
I’m assuming that’s a typo. Since we don’t have a 2019 2nd, there’s a real possibility it was a 2020 2nd and Frolik for Zucker.
