UCP was doing this a couple of months ago. If you gave your phone number to Elections Alberta, you're available to be texted.
I believe political messages are exempt from Canadian Anti Spam Legislation (commonly known as CASL). They are allowed to contact you with no permission to solicit.

Go ahead and respond with nasties if it makes you feel any better, but it won't help.

Policital campaigns are exempt from CASL.
There is no way the NDP is using a list from Elections Alberta to make these texts, I'm sure they rented a list.

Edit: Here's the news story from last year:

In an emailed statement from the NDP Caucus, caucus chair and Edmonton-Manning MLA Heather Sweet said the texts are sent using a program that “generates random mobile numbers to text.” She said when a person replies, they’re engaging with a volunteer on the other end.

“Like door-knocking, attending events, etc. this is just another method of outreach,” Mariampillai said.

At least I got the courtesy of a real person phone call. The best part is when I said I wasn’t voting UCP she asked why I wasn’t going to vote at all, as if the only choice was UCP or stay at home. When I told her Notley was awesome she hung up on me. But I’ll take that over a robotext any day.

Looking forward to the "head in the sand" strategy by the future governing party towards the people that didn't vote for them |

 .....
The contribution was made "with funds given or furnished by another person," contrary to the Election Finances and Contributions Act, the commissioner's website said.

Sure, but regardless, just because one party gets accused of wrongdoings doesn't mean that you can just do whatever you like. What are we in grade 3 here?

I didn't say any of that. I'm just saying it's interesting all the outrage over the use of a hospital vs outright and actual malfeasance resulting in fines. The UCP ran a super corrupt campaign and no one seems to care.

It doesn't matter if they are at Kal Tire or a hospital, they are campaigning man. With public dollars. Just get on with the effing election, time's up for the NDP.

That's where the "outrage" is coming from.

			More:
Alberta ended 2018 with negative growth (-0.2%) in total labour compensation. This doesn't typically happen outside of a recession. This alone is ~ half of GDP, so it's the broadest monthly indicator available for a province. Not looking good.

And:

With the historical data (thanks CHASS CANSIM!) I can go back to 1961. The inflation-adjusted drop in Alberta's total labour income in December 2018 is the largest drop outside of a recession in (at least) the past 60 years. #ableg
