Yes, someone else would likely be leaving the Flames had both Zucker and Edler joined the team, Fantenberg for one would probably not be acquired.
Maybe that offer that blew the Canucks away included a roster player, and something will have to eventually give on Calgary's defense.
There was obviously a plan to move a lot of salary out had Ottawa accepted Treliving's offer for Stone.

I wouldn't be keen on pursuing Zucker in the summer because I think Dube will be able to fill that role as soon as next season.
Dube isn't as big as Zucker, obviously, but he is faster, is developing nicely to be great defensively, and has similar offensive upside.
So why take on Zucker's contract?
A cost-contained Dube would fit very nicely on Backlund's line: Dube - Backlund - Tkachuk

A lot of fast players like Dube seem smaller for some reason. Russ Courtnall was also 5'11 but he seemed small. Gartner was 6 feet and I always thought of him as a littler guy.
He may also have a more crouched style.

My lovely friends who are Canucks fans are going on and on about how Calgary tried to trade Dube and a 1st fof Edler. Saying Edler turned the trade down. Man I'd have been pissed if that happened!
