Hell, even if it was just a regional broadcast, there is nothing that would prevent Sportsnet from airing the ceremonly nationally on SNW.

Certainly not ideal but when the schedule was made Sportsnet didn't know a random date vs the Wild would end up being so special. It's a fair compromise.
Ideally the Flames will stream the thing on their social media, or find an illegal stream night of, not that difficult.

The Iginla retirement ceremony will be on Sportsnet West nationally!
This is confirmed through various contacts including Sportsnet. Their website also confirms the national status, https://www.sportsnet.ca/schedule/ and click on March 2. There is no asterisk beside the SN West symbol, the only asterisk on that date is beside the BJs-Oilers game which means that game/programming is regional. Since Sportsnet took over the national contract, all four regional channels are not blacked out on Saturdays during the NHL season beginning at 1600h Mountain.
The Penguins-Habs game will be on the West channel and at 1830h Mountain, the West channel will cut away from the game and go to the ceremony. Viewers in the various Sportsnet regions have been pulled away from games that are being shown nationally to a regional game. This happened on the West channel on Thursday with the Sharks-Penguins game being pulled in the second intermission to go to the beginning of the Islanders-Oilers game.
Sportsnet wants this ceremony to available nation wide unlike the incompetent CBC which infamously did not show the Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion ceremony nationally.

Special Announcement Coming for March 2 Game vs. Wild UPDATE** Flames retire #12
So, I thought this was a good thread to post the below link, given the upcoming Iggy tribute...blast from the past and all...
About 20+ years ago ( ) I wrote the Flames (yes, kids, we used to send actual paper mail) in an attempt to...well, I don’t really remember what. Mainly, I was tired of the franchise losing star players, losing in general, and having Calgarians jump off the bandwagon. I don’t have a copy of the letter I sent, but I think it was kind of a “diehard love letter”, for lack of a better description...(I was barely out of high school and still a kid...what’d I know...?)
To their immense credit, the Flames wrote me back. This was the result:

So how does one in BC, who isn’t going to the game, get one of those Budweisers? I need one

I'm late to the discussion but does anyone else find it odd that the ceremony begins at 6:30 for an 8:00 puck drop? Are they going to do a ceremony, then warm up for the players followed by a flood? Just seems like a bizarre start time.

Must be having the ceremony (or part of it) before warm ups.
Thought they were telling people 6:30 to get people in the dome by a decent time but they keep pushing it so it must be true.
Can’t. Frickin. Wait.

Doors open at 5:30 with that free beer available between 5:30 and 6:00. Ceremony supposedly starts "promptly" at 6:30. I sure hope that the Flames have had their best people involved in this.

Amazing, thanks for sharing! Although seeing that Marc Savard card and what could have been brings a tear to my eye. Damn you Button!!!! I never wrote the Flames but I did send a grumpy email to Craig Button when he dealt Stillman for Conroy. He actually emailed me back and said Cory Stillman would never win anything. Conroy had a good run here but Button sure nailed Stillman's career lol. Not!

Yes I noticed that too!. Remember when they retired Vernon's number in the black and red (a jersey he never wore)? I am glad they were able to fix it. It seems like the Flames are going for some continuity here. It appears that Iginla's banner will also be in the retro red. I am glad he wore that jersey, and that the banner won't have the stupid shoulder flag patches lol

Hopefully this is also another indication of a full-time return of the retro reds.

I still think the Heritage Classic jersey for October will be the Retro Away jersey, which we’ll then wear a few times after that game then transition to retros full time the next year.
...then a 3rd jersey of ol Blasty!

Yeah that is the big thing I wanted to share.
Aligning the banner to this standard looks so much nicer than the old banners. Excited for the festivities on Saturday.
