Flames Flames @ Islanders 5:00pm (SNW)

The Calgary Flames make their return to the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum for the first time since February 27, 2015 as they take on the New York Islanders.

Projected starters are Mike Smith for the Flames and Robin Lehner for the Islanders. https://leftwinglock.com/starting-goalies

The Flames have won their last five games, but their top line has been quiet as of late. Calgary currently sits three points up on San Jose, who play in Boston this evening, and hold a game in hand for first place in the Western Conference.

The Islanders top the Metropolitan division with a 36-18-7-79 record, and shutout the Vancouver Canucks in their last game.

The Flames top line is cold at the moment, and the team squeaked out a win in the dying moments against the Senator in their last game. The Flames tend to play to their opponent’s level, which means tonight should be a good bout.

This evening’s game is on SportsNet West, so for those of us outside Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories or Nunavut, we are relegated to NHL Centre Ice, Game Centre, or your local sports bar.

Go Flames Go

This is the game where the first line needs to get on the scoreboard.

Going to get in front of this early...

If the Flames don't win tonight, its not because they didn't pick anyone up at the deadline.

Ok 1st line, here's your chance to step up. The bottom 6 can't do it every night.

I really liked the last game, and I have the feeling this one's going to be even better.

I feel a fast game coming on, and this needs to be the game the 1st line comes to play. They started the game against the NYI well, so hopefully Johnny and Sean can bring much of the same tonight

More and more of #11 tonight please! He's been playing great hockey again lately (opened the scoring last game too) and we can rely on 3M to suppress what the Islanders can throw out.

GO FLAMES GO!

Man, I hope the Flames can find a way to sign Robin Lehner this summer. He's Swedish, so I bet Treliving will be interested.

As Trotz and the Isles specifically mentioned Smith’s puck handling being disruptive to their forecheck, it will be interesting to see how they adapt. More carry ins, more shallow chip and chases, placed behind the D but not far enough for Smith?

They should of course try and draw to the no-go area, and even if it makes it to the trapezoid, it will be slow and their forecheckers can at least cause Smith some issues like happened in his last game. And carry-ins of course.

Chip and chase doesn't work as well because Calgary's D is mobile and quick to move the puck. They win a lot of puck races (as opposed to puck battles).

I hope we don't! This is a one hit wonder year for Lehner. I trust him as much as I trust Smith.

Greiss on the otherhand..... haha

Of course not. It would be because they didn’t acquire anyone. I don’t know why you’d want them picking people up.

No Oliver today or tomorrow.

Wes Gilbertson@WesGilbertson
D Oliver Kylington won’t play next two games due to minor injury. Dalton Prout goes tonight, new guy Oscar Fantenberg tomorrow.

As long as Lehner has Trotz coaching and Mitch Korn as his goalie coach he should do just fine.

When does Valimaki get the call up?

I am guessing, barring injuries, they are going to let him play it out in Stockton until the playoffs. No point in wasting a call-up right now.
