Have to also remember tax implications of resigning Stone. 960 covered this briefly.
9.5M in Vegas (no state tax) could have meant 11M for the same net in Calgary

The one deal I really wish the Flames were in on was Granlund. For Fiala, that seems like a bit of a steal.

That would have been a nice upgrade.

IMO, yes. And we would have been too if we made a deadline deal for a forward in the same ilk.
Would you have given up Valimaki?

Well I’m pleasantly pleased with today for a few reasons:

1.) Very rarely does the team who makes a huge deadline acquisition do damage in the playoffs. It’s usually the depth pickups (Fantenberg).

B.) Losing a cost controlled, likely future top 2 defenseman for what is now an overpaid winger who’s contract ends at 35 would be asinine.

III.) Getting Mark Stone would all but assure losing Matthew Tkachuk who is younger with a higher ceiling. Sorry guys, no one is talking Neal’s contract to free up cap room.

Four.) As for the aforementioned Neal, if he can turn it up down the home stretch/playoffs we’ve just acquired a deadline acquisition for zero assets. Even Czarnik has been ramping up lately.

Yep, I think Tre was pretty much perfect today.

How are they going crush everyone? Should we just pack up now and wait a few years till their contacts run out?

I would take us against any team in 7 games and I mean anyone

That's a loser mentality you have, some would call it oiler mentality

Hard not to be disappointed today, but I’m really glad we kept all our young defenseman. The prices were just way too high. Where were these prices when we were trading Iginla?

LOL. They said he might be a player they can sub in on the 3rd pairing if they want to change the style of that pairing.

Saying he might be a decent #4 LD if the team needs a style change is hardly treating him like the second coming.

Get a grip.

If you're fine with giving up Bennett for Granlund, then yes. That's probably the closest value you'd get.

You don't get these prices when the team waits 3 to 4 years to long to decide to part with the assets.

I think they have to talk up everything the flames do, otherwise, most people wasted their time listening to this snore fest

the reality is that the winner of TDL day is not determined by the hockey analysts; its determined on the ice.

Calgary didn't do anything, but we don't know if that is an issue until we get to the playoffs...

honestly, i understand people are disappointed because ppl really were expecting something pretty major... but people already saying Calgary isn't going to be able to compete are being a little too pessimistic...

we have no option but to wait and see if standing pat was the right decision.

Speaking of which, I don't know what but something needs to be done about this. It's complete horse #### that some teams have this kind of advantage.

The Flames core is very young (outside of Gio who is not human) - so they Flames didn't need to go all in right now - especially when prices were high. This group has gotten them to first in the West, let's see what they can do! We can always make another big move in the summer - and we have a number of good prospects that can keep our window open for a while.

Valimaki must be feeling pretty damn good right about now too - a bridge too far to acquire Stone!

I have to admit that I expected something yes. But not as much as I did last year, we were in a spot where they were making a push for a playoff spot and could have used some scoring and goaltending
