Icon46 Canucks trade Jonathan Dahlén to SJ for Linus Karlsson

Dahlén was pretty highly thought-of at one point. Acquired by Van initially in the Alex Burrows trade

Seems like a big win for SJ even if it’s a minor trade

Didn't they just acquire Dahlen last year? Weird they would move on so quickly.

This seems like an hilariously bad trade for the 'nucks. Dahlén was a great prospect up until this season. What happened?

Sounds like Dahlen forced the issue. Felt he was too good for the AHL and should be in the NHL.

This looks very VERY similar to the Shinkaruk for Granlund deal years ago.

Actually, it is the Baerstchi trade you are thinking of. Sven forced the trade.

There was nothing from Granlund from a Flames perspective. Not sure if Shinkaruk forced the Canucks into it though.

SJ is gearing up for free agent armageddon this summer. Dahlen probably makes the team next year.

Yeah, and he's quite a skilled player who seems like a probable top 9 forward eventually. This was a good writeup from a universally good series last year:

https://theathletic.com/600759/2018/...ior-edge-work/

Quote:
But Dahlen’s most unique skill — the one that few players at any level have mastered in the way he has — is his edgework. And those who follow my work closely, know I love a player who can create separation with directional changes or spacing by opening up. It’s why I was high on Clayton Keller, and Jeremy Bracco (and still am). It’s why so many are fascinated with Jeff Skinner and Sidney Crosby. Dahlen is among the best on the planet when he’s on the finest edges of his blades.
This looks like an excellent deal for San Jose and a pretty big loss to a rebuilding Vancouver prospect cupboard... which I guess is what happens when a player forces his way out of town.
