IMHO Stone is overpaid @ $9,500,000.

Maybe next season the Flames go all in on Taylor Hall.

I calmed down and made another post about how I felt
But what rentals are you referring to?

I'm all for not trading for any of the big guns, where you needed to included the young dmen, but to not pony up and land a guy like Nyquist makes no sense to me.

He didn't want to come to the Flames.

Calgary is still going to lay a thorough beating on these teams. They can try and get better all they want, it ain't going to change the result.

Going for Zucker would've been smart. Improves you and not a rental.
These rentals will only pay off for one of these teams, maybe none.

Easy to say that but name the piece that is equivalent.
It probably rhymes with Tram Lemmet

I don't think we really need to, I think Hall would just come on over on his own. I think if he becomes a UFA, he definitely considers coming to Calgary at a decent price.

All of the guys right behind us in the race just got nitro boosts in my opinion. Treliving must really have a lot of faith in our guys to continue our pace even though everyone around us got better.
Questionable move by Tre, but time will tell.

This is false.

You go ahead and do that. The Flames continue to look very good to me—not just this year, but for a long time coming.

Of course it would be better if players like Hayes and Stone didn't end up in our conference.........especially Stone to a division rival long term.
But the Flames have a 1st place team right now. Our roster looks good and is young. Not parting with any significant assets, keep our 1st round pick, and all our young talent currently in the organization is definitely a Top 3 outcome for me during this deadline day. The Flames are still one of the best teams in the west, nothing that happened today changed that......... and of the top teams in the west we are one of the best positioned for our window to be open for a number of years after this. Happy for the GM to keep building our team the right way and look to keep us competitive for years to come.

Oh wow, really surprised the Flames did nothing today...
Really like the moves Vegas, Sharks, Jets and the Predators made

When was the last time a big splash at the deadline put someone over the edge and got them a cup?

I think keeping the assets this year really sets the Flames up to big big spenders next summer with all of our 2020 picks and young players maturing.

Goodluck to Vegas and Mark Stone closing a 16 point gap between Calgary and Vegas.
Calgary just needs to stay on top of the division, play Minnesota/Dallas/Colorado/Chicago and then wait for Vegas and San Jose to beat each other up.
|
Points don't mean #### in the playoffs. Vegas is a big mean team. I could see them crunching the Flames. We've seen this to be the Flames weakness.
Flames homers need to wake up and realize Tre really messed this up.

I wanted to do nothing but now that literally everyone else in the west loaded up and Nashville did it for what looks like peanuts to me... it makes me wonder why we wasted so much time on Stone when there was some very good deals to be had.

The windows for almost all the western contending teams are considerably smaller than Calgary IMO. SJ is old as dirt. Nashville has only one forward under 25 and no D under 28. Vegas has Tuch as a youngster and that's it. Winnipeg is a bit better but even they are older than Calgary. Calgary has 7 fowards 24 and under not counting Dube. They have 3 D 22 and under plus Valimaki. Gaudreau is a pretty young 25 and Czarnik doesn't have very many miles either.
That tells me that the Flames have less reason to (a) go all in and (b) mess a lot with their cap structure.

I am definitely on both sides of the fence... Glad we didn't overpay or sell the farm. I didn't want to see guys like 1 of our 3 dmen kids or perhaps even duke moved.
That being said, I think a deadline acquisition would have been a nice injection of excitement into the lineup. Standing pat is definitely a showing of faith, but at the same time, I wonder how much a NHL locker room is affected by a TDL acquisition, or the lack of one. Especially, when every team in the conference appears to have loaded up.
I am also looking at the price tags on most pickups, aside from Hayes I guess, but for Stone, Simmonds, Granlund, Nyquist, Zucarello, Johansson, I'd be curious to know what the flames equivalent packages were, because the price tags for these guys seem very very palatable.
My guess is not having enough 2nd/3rd round picks and instead having to dip into prospect equity instead was the challenge for the flames.
I'm not angry or considering this a 'failure' by any means, but at the same time, I think being disappointed in today's result is an absolutely fair reaction for flames fans. Especially given the price tags for the forwards who would have looked fantastic in the flames 2nd or 3rd line wing.
