I wish someone would ask Bieksa about Ferland's impact on a team in the playoffs.

Its weird that I agree with Doug Maclean. Bit of a hole on the 2nd line.

I don't think they're wrong about size. The worry about getting past Vegas and San Jose sounds like a hot take.

It makes me wonder if the team internally wants Smith to regain #1 form. His ability to break up a forcheck in the playoffs to protect the Dmen from getting pounded could be a major consideration.

Well, you've got to make believers out of the unbelievers at some point.

I personally relish the Flames being seen as underdogs. Even at 2nd in the NHL.

My wish list:

1. Five on five I like our game. But would be nice to add more scoring to the power play. Case in point v. OTT, Flames controlled things nicely on the PP but had very few quality scoring chances. In the playoffs you need a dependable PP to come up big in critical situations.

2. Size/Grit. I don't disagree with Bieksa. The bottom six on VGK and SJS looks considerably larger. In a seven game series size matters.

He's just giving his opinion. Not everyone need to be sucking up to the Flames and talking about how great we are.

I do agree with him to an extent. Gaudreau has not looked very good in the playoffs. Hoping that changes this year though because I think speed and skill alone can still win.

Think something is up with #FlaPanthers ... travel coordinator just ran into locker room. May be a trade - or lunch is late.

They've gotten it done far more so than the Flames as the comparison point here........multiple series won with the current core. But I do see you point as they've never gotten it done ultimately.

In his first ever playoffs, he had 9 points in 11 games.

Playing a physical game in the playoffs is overrated.

Chicago won 3 SC's without playing physically, although they could certainly take hits without buckling.

I recall Kesler saying "no one could take that many hits and survive" and found out that the longer the series went on, the more tired the Ducks became running around trying to hit the Hawks. By the time the series got to game 6, the Hawks were finally in control against a tired Ducks squad.

I'd be pretty surprised if Tre did nothing, with the two other major contenders in the west adding top 6 forwards.

They don't really have any significant pending UFAs this year. Any player who has value for them also has term left on his contract, so that has to be taken into account.

Not too familiar with Hoffman's 200 ft game but he would do wonders for PP2. Even if he plays up on PP1 he would push a better player to the second unit.

the thing about "truculence" and "playing physical" is that though it might not be seen as much during the regular season, when you get into 7 game series and see the saame ugly faces and cheapness from these same guys night after night...physicality most certainly becomes a MAJOR part of the game.

I say it certainly wont hurt anything to add some size and muscle to this club, because we are demonstrably smaller and more finesse than a majority of clubs.

Sometimes the hardest and the smartest move is to do nothing.

I guess you have more faith in the state of the game and how it's played in the playoffs than I do. I'm very pro in phasing out toughness in the game, and truthfully hope we see that soon in playoff hockey.

I've seen teams like Vegas, San Jose, Anaheim play a physical brand of hockey in matchups with the Flames and exploit the inability of the Flames to matchup with that.

In a 7 game series, it's foolish to think more grit and heavy hockey isn't played to contrast the style of the Flames. The Flames aren't the only team that battles this dilemma (hello, Leafs) of fielding skill vs grit.

I guess you can choose to willfully oppose it and hope the skill wins out, but it's ignorance to think these opponents won't be looking to exploit this from the Flames.

I'd love to be wrong on it, I just haven't seen this roster respond well when physicality is notched up.

I understand what you are saying but what are some examples of this team last year having trouble against physical teams? they have beaten the majority of top teams in the league
