Conditional 4th for winning the Cup ain't too much of an add really.

Lemieux would have a little more trade value than Mangiapane.

I think the rest of the league knows that they’d have to compete with us over signing him too, so they’ve be almost for sure be paying for a rental. I just think Stone is going to wait for an offer from Calgary before he signs anywhere this summer now.
Only for one year though. I don't see Mike Stone being here longer than that unless it's at a big discount. He certainly won't see ice-time unless the Flames have to move two young D.

The conditional pick in the Kevin Hayes deal is a fourth-rounder if the Jets win the Stanley Cup. Otherwise no extra pick.
So a 1st and Lemieux then

Gaudreau has more PIM than Hayes. Sure the guy is 6'5", but he's a playmaker more than a heavy hitter. We already have a guy like that in Jankowski.

So far with virtually every trade the costs have not been that bad for the buyer. Ottawa’s ask for Stone must be high cause they’re scaring away teams like Winnipeg from paying up for what they really wanted.

If they’re not careful... everyone could move on and they’ll end up getting less than what’s been offered so far.

A good quality player? Looking at the late 1st/early 2nd picks of the lats ten years

2009
24th - Marcus Johansson - Washington
33rd - Ryan O'Reilly - Colorado
39th - Jakob Silfverberg - Ottawa
46th - Robin Lehner - Ottawa

2010
24th - Kevin Hayes - Chicago
28th - Charlie Coyle - San Jose
30th - Brock Nelson - Islanders
37th - Justin Faulk - Carolina

2011
30th - Rickard Rakell - Anaheim
37th - Boone Jenner - Columbus
39th - John Gibson - Anaheim
43rd - Brandon Saad - Chicago

2012
30th - Tanner Pearson - LA

2013
23rd - Andre Burakovsky - Washington

2014
25th - David Pastrnak - Boston

2015
28th - Anthony Beauvillier - Islanders
32nd - Christian Fischer - Arizona
35th - Sebastian Aho - Carolina

The value of a late first is obviously less than a high pick but there is still big value to it. You can't just brush aside it or want to trade it away quickly

Maybe the ask that was too high was a 1st & Dillon Dubé?

1st round picks just flying off the shelf this year. Seems weird. I remember when the Flames were selling and only the tippy top guys were getting 1st rounders - now everyone and their brother is worth a 1st round pick.

I would find it hard to think that Calgary doesn't make a big splash now considering all of our rivals have stocked up. Does this mean we get Stone at a discounted price?

We’ve found some good players in the second round.

Winnipeg needed a centre. They traded for one. I'm not sure that this is blinking.

I am thinking the asking price for Stone is too high and most interested teams are now looking elsewhere. It is possible Stone could remain in Ottawa after the deadline. Wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah this was also something that hit me on the Stone/Winnipeg side. They needed a centre, and have needed one since Stastny pulled his shenanigans in the summer.

I feel like Stone will command a far lower salary as a UFA than he will on a deal made right now, or to a team that trades for him with the intention of extending him.

The pressure is on Ottawa to either re-sign Stone, lose him for nothing or trade him. Since he hasn't re-signed for the alleged 10.5, what's the chance he's gonna stick around?

I think Ottawa is probably feeling the pressure more to get something for a player that is most likely wanting to hit free agency rather than stay with the Sens.

That, plus Treliving doesn't seem to be feeling any heat, which I love. This team has been doing great as is. Adding Stone would be solid, but isn't necessary in the least.

I don't see why. Mangiapane has a way higher ceiling and has been better at every level minus a very small sample in the NHL (and everyone has seen Mangiapane start piling up the offense now that he's adjusted and healthy). Lemieux may be a pest and a goon, but it's unlikely he has a better NHL career than Mangiapane.

I'm not sure we have a comparable prospect to Lemieux (ITO Floor & Ceiling), and I can see why we'd want to hang on to our guys more because the ones with a lower floor - like Phillips and Zavgorodniy - still have the higher ceiling. The closest thing we have is probably Lazar and his value is low for other reasons, plus he's not a goon.
