Default 2018/2019 Trade Speculation and Rumors

Sens are gonna price themselves out of Stone and get worse offers tomorrow. Every team knows they have to trade him, the Sens have handled this Mark Stone situation so horribly. The fact that he’s even a UFA is just terrible asset management on all levels by the Senators. Oiler level stuff over there, this could really blow up in their faces if it already hasn’t. You have waited to the last possible day to decide what to do with your franchises most valuable asset. The Sens have been negotiating like amateurs but clearly they think other teams are just as dim as they are.

Not going to happen now that he broke his arm blocking a shot tonight

I think the point they were trying to make is that because he broke his arm and is out for a month, he now won’t help the Stars in their push, where he would help the Flames when it really matters in April at the same time he is healed.

Just in case there was ever any doubt this guy is an Eklund wannabe, we now know.
Yeah. Maybe he does have a legit source or two but his tendancy to way way way over report every little thing he hears is ruining whatever rep he might have.

That or he makes #### up and happened to be right once or twice. Either way, I'm done caring about his rumours

That twitter page may also be someone pretending to be the poster from Reddit. He says on his twitter that his reddit account got locked out and to check his reddit page for verification of the twitter feed but there’s no verification. I guess pretending to know info is the new fad. No more reddit for me tonight

Neal was different, they are legit friends and he and Smith hard sold the flames. IIRC all three were playing golf days before the signing. So completely had an in.

The rest of it is him rehashing what he hears and throwing as much against the wall as possible, just having fun with it because trade deadline has become a spectacle. It seems like every/any tweet out there is taken as a real source. From a social media aspect it is amusing to watch, mainly because it is about sports rather than news.

OT question, but not really sure where to ask.

How much salary/cap space can a team retain when they trade a player? If Ottawa retains as much as they can, it would make a trade for the price they are asking, a lot easier.

Starting to feel like Kevin Hayes will be the guy the Flames nab. Think they have a pretty decent shot at re-signing too. Still wanting Stone though.
Tomorrow morning should be exciting. Far more than previous deadlines, I think.

Yeah, I'm kind of feeling like Kevin Hayes is the guy who ends up here tomorrow.

6'5 center putting up 0.8 PPG and a plus rating on a not great team.

Not a bad consolation prize if I do say.

The courting period also completely changes the dynamic for free agent signings to leak out. Teams talk to players and agents, who then talk to each other. The trade deadline is much more cloak and dagger.

I honestly have no idea what to make of Hayes. I'd be fine with him for a price similar to what SJ gave up for Nyquist, but to me he seems like an ok middle-six player who probably doesn't move the needle that much.

I don't dislike him, but I could also see him being a disappointment who moves through the lineup looking for the right fit. Stone is a difference-maker who would make this team a serious playoff threat.

Either way, tomorrow should be interesting.

It feels like the most aggressive teams going after Stone (Winnipeg and Calgary it sounds like) are waiting for the other to blink and abandon the chase for Stone and just go get Hayes instead. That would remove one of the top two bids for him and could make Ottawa surrender Stone to the team that remains.

I’m not saying that team will have come out on top after the trade deadline... that all depends on how much it costs to get Stone and how much it costs to get Hayes.

I bet Treliving is offering a huge package of picks rather than prospects and Ottawa is wary of that. It could be something like this:

To Ottawa:
2019 1st round pick
2020 1st round pick
2020 conditional 3rd round pick (becomes 2nd if Stone re-signs)
2021 2nd round pick
Dube

To Calgary:
Stone (50% retained)

The sticking point would be that Ottawa wants one of Calgary’s 3 young defensemen and Treliving probably does not want to give up any of them.

Exactly, like all the other "experts" that are right 10% of the time

Hayes is better than Frolik, and would make the team stronger/deeper up front, without a doubt. Doesn't move the needle as much as Stone, no, but at the end of the day probably does as much for the Flames as Nyquist does for SJ, so you're keeping up with your playoff rival. Gives you more options down the middle (that can adequately replace Backlund if need be), which to me was something I hoped they would address.

Just saw Morrissey got injured, wonder if it’s long term would the Jets need to use assets that would’ve been in a Stone trade to strengthen up their D, which isn’t that great to begin with.
