Because the top six gets itself in funks and I think at times like these they're a little too dependent on each other playing well to pull themselves out. Monahan has a tough time when Gaudreau isn't making perfect passes to him in the slot. Tkachuk feed guys but often doesn't have any one to put his passes away, unless Backlund is on one of his infrequent scoring streaks. So those guys get stuck for an extended period of time, especially when Gaudreau who is the engine that drives those guys, isn't going. Getting Stone who is most of all a line driver in his own right, and can finish, would only help with getting more consistent production out of the top six when certain guys aren't firing.
I don't want to bank on the playoffs coinciding with one of Gaudreau's hot streaks in order to go on a run. If he's playing like this, we're done. We could use another catalyst.

It wasn't just that though... He managed to do an entire segment on the deadline, on a Canadian sports channel, without mentioning the Flames. He even managed to talk about the Yotes being interested in Hoffman. But the Flames? Not a mention.
He is an Oiler shill. And a bad one.

This trade deadline has become the worst of all worlds. Teams are going to pay UFA dollars, with the acquisition price of a player with term - inflated by the deadline.
I hope the flames pass. Save the assets and improve the team at half the cost in the summer.

You have to factor in the salary cap when considering trades. It's not just trading Valimaki for Stone. It would be trading a salary controlled Valimaki for the next 7 years for about 5 to 7 years of a winger that will receive close to $10 million per season. Not to mention that Valimaki has the potential to be a #1 defenseman. That would be some really poor asset management and I doubt Treliving would ever do it.

My guess is another hour at most, maybe two.
Once players go to bed, my guess,is that trades don’t get finalized or consummated, and I don’t know if the league office stays open, even tonight, past a certain time to register the trades.

We've been talking about Mark Stone for our 1st and every notable prospect in the organization. And we've been hemming and hawing if it's worth it or not.
If the ask was simply Valimaki for a signed Stone, that's as easy as New Jersey saying yes to Hall for Larsson.

I got caught up in the excitement of getting Stone but he will cost too much at the end of it. Get Hayes or Simmonds and call it a day. We have a solid team already.

That is an expensive acquisition, but what do you expect for a franchise-level type of player in his prime?
I absolutely LOVE Kylington - always have, and I think he will easily be a top 4 defensmen in this league who puts up points. Those are expensive to acquire. IMO, he is more valuable than the Flames' first round pick. I think Dube is more valuable than the Flames' 1st round pick too. Is Stone actually worth all 4 assets?
That's a tough trade. That's a lot of futures - including 2 'can't miss' prospects with upside and NHL experience. I am literally on the fence. If the Flames don't meet that price and walk away, I can live with not getting Stone. If the Flames end up meeting the price and the trade goes through, I can also live with it as I know it puts the Flames THAT much closer to winning a cup starting now and continuing for the next 4 years.
If Calgary acquires Stone, he becomes the 2nd best forward on this team - MAYBE the best. I look at how Lindholm has blown-up this year, and I think that Stone will also have that big of an impact in the line-up. Is that worth the futures? Is the need that large to give up those futures, or is this just loading up just to load up?
I think there is a need at RW. I think it makes the Flames a harder team to match-up against with Stone in the lineup. The depth scoring is fantastic right now, but you can't always count on it either - sometimes you need your 'game-breakers' to actually break the game. Having two lines that can do this should really help.
That's a big price-tag, but one that I can live with. Hopefully Dorion blinks first and hopefully Kylington isn't included. 1st, 1st, Dube - Dorian can rationalize it by saying Dube is a much better prospect than the two they acquired from Columbus. Getting 2 firsts and a quality prospect that can play right now is nothing to sneeze at. I don't even want to unload Frolik right now either - trade him in the off-season after the playoffs, as I think he is a very effective defensive forward, and can probably help the Flames win. Frolik and Ryan on the 4th line should be a fairly decent shut-down line/possession line.
I hope it isn't Kylington going (and I assume Valimaki is off the table).

Update from reddit guy's twitter if you put any stock into his info, I don't believe this guy anymore:
Peter @ADragon023 6m6 minutes ago
I can confirm that the #Flames are no longer interested in Mark Stone. #Senators asking price is still too high, and if not traded, He will most likely re-sign as rumoured before. #Flames are off to New York and are expected to make a trade with #NYR involving Kevin Hayes.

That guy claimed he was a Flames scout on his twitter page. What better way to get fired than to leak potential trade info, especially when the GM is BT who leaks nothing. No chance in hell that guy is legit.
