Piss off Sharks.
I would've gladly paid that for Nyquist

Wtf Holland? That's all? We couldn't offer more than that? He has 49 points in 62 games..

Nyquist has a full NTC, he got to choose his destination. Good chance that played into it.

The way SJ keeps getting something for nothing is so damn irritating.
But surely now they've expended every single meaningful asset they can and their goaltending still stinks. So whatever.
I wish them a miserable 1st round exit to agonize over having no draft to speak of for the next 2 years.

Maybe he wouldn’t come here? Good deal for the Sharks.
But man there are a few teams who won’t be sending much of a contingent to the draft in next few years. Sharks, Blue Jackets...

^Flames did not have a second. Also, I am not sure where you would slot him in on Calgary, he is a better fit with the Sharks

yup... you'd think Nyquist would waive for Calgary, but SJ is just as good a contender and maybe he wanted to play with Karlsson and live in Cali for his last contract...

Calgary also doesn’t have a 2019 2nd. So what would they offer to be that?

Even with a NTC, that's a very reasonable price. It sounds like the best offer came from SJ, and then Holland approached Nyquist with waiving. Did Nyquist submit a list of teams already, or was this REALLY the best offer for him? He is so underrated.

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Also believe the Red Wings will be retaining around 30 percent of Nyquist’s salary in the trade to San Jose
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
BOS believed to be the Eastern Conference team that was closest to landing Nyquist.

Sharks have 2 2nd round picks this year. Their own and Florida's they acquired in the Hoffman flip.
In the Karlsson deal they traded the higher of the 2nd rounders (at this point going to be Florida's) to Ottawa.
So Detroit will get SJ's 2nd for this year.

Pretty good add for them. I wish they would just go away already.

Honestly I would've gave up our 1st (26-31) range for Nyqvist no questions asked.
My guess is he did not want to come to Calgary.

It's scary to think that Wayne Simmonds and his 27 points might fetch a greater return, despite the fact that he has one of the lowest career +/- in the league (-54 in the past 3 years).

potentially 2 2nds if conditions are met
conditions:
Detroit will receive the lower of San Jose or Florida's 2019 second round selections, along with San Jose's third round selection in 2020. Should San Jose reach the 2019 Stanley Cup Final OR re-sign Nyquist, the third round selection in 2020 becomes San Jose's second round selection.
