Stone isn’t getting 10 on a 8 year deal, and if he was then I doubt there’d be this much interest from the Flames. It’ll probably settle somewhere around 9 over 8. Regardless, ya, good with moving Brodie and Frolik for sure. And we’re going to have to do more this offseason, and I’m sure Treliving has that all in mind and a general idea in his head. These moves aren’t in a bubble. We give up prospects and futures now but will surely gain many back after the season with trades.

I have not mentioned a rental deal until that post so
Of course we get futures back by trading two or 3 guys.
But what is the net difference?

Hearing the Calgary #Flames, tonight's visitors @CdnTireCtr, are one of the teams, most from the West, circling back on Stone for one last shot before Monday's 3 p.m. deadline. How crazy would that be if the #sens pull off another shopping cart trade?

Pretty good I think. Stone at these prices is still discounted. I bet in the offseason you can get an almost similar package for Brodie, parobably a little less but in the end I do believe our prospect pool will get restocked. Like someone had already said, we are poised to lose someone to expansion, so we likely are going to have to move out 2 good roster players in exchange for non eligible expansion draft prospects anyway.

Mark Stone would be the ultimate get for this team. Very much a Jarome Iginla type of player.
Maybe it's all the hype and rumours, maybe it's the urgency with the deadline rapidly approaching, but I am incredibly excited that the Flames could add a player like him.
The next 30 hours are going to keep me on one ass cheek.

Reddit insiderrrrrrr (same guy who called the lindhom trade and backlund extension) says the Flames are very close. It boils down to re-signing details for Stone
Quote:
The Calgary Flames and Ottawa senators are close to a deal for Mark Stone. Flames asking for permission to see if Stone has interest in re-signing before pulling the trigger.
I think the Senators are reluctant to allow teams to talk to him because it may bring the price down if he doesn't want to re-sign.
They are running out of time though. Calgary is the front runner for Stone.

All depends on cost.
I’d take a long look at Brodie, considering what is in the pipeline (Andersson, Kylington, Valimaki). Having three top two defensemen (and one up and coming in Hanifin) is a luxury. Any of the the three youngsters have at least top four upside.
Deal from a position of strength.
Salary wise it will work (Brodie and Stone of the books), but does it mean we say bye to Tkachuk? Stone and Tkachuk will probably cost 15m/year, something’s got to give.
Moving Frolik, sure, but we’re still kind of short on cap room. And looking ahead we have three kids on D coming up for new contracts.
I don’t think this roster, the way it’s set up, can fit in a Stone. Problem is Neal, if he was producing BT would only look for some depth.
And to that, getting Neal in to the right form is probably the best deadline acquisition. Get Kreider instead - he’d look awesome here - size, speed, skill.

There is no way a Tre deal for Stone, comes at the cost of Tkachuk. Tre has a plan - he wouldn't risk losing Chucky.

The Flames would be stacked for the playoffs with Stone, but they're already second in the league without him. Maybe having 5 star F is overkill for the season. Suppose they trade for and sign Stone, then trade one of the big 5 after the season to recoup what they paid, rinse and repeat the following season. Instead of going top-heavy for the regular season at the expense of other areas only bulk up at TDL with a continuous rotation of top talent. Dumb idea?

Flames are everything except goalie heavy right now.
It’s amazing how this team has come together this year. I’m well past the point of second guessing Tre. I’m cool with whatever he manages (or doesn’t).
I’d feel better with Frolik gone. The agent stuff left a bad taste, and it’s better to minimize any chance of distraction. He’s a good value player that fits top six on a lot of teams so hopefully Tre can make him part of a package.
