All McDavid had to do was Leddy up a bit and he doesn't get suspended. 🤣

Gretzky’s job may well be to defend McDavid and try and keep a suspension from occurring, and using any flimsy reasoning. I, for example, didn’t see Leddy stumble anywhere at any point. Regardless.
What isn’t part of Gretzky’s job is to go running to the press with the transcripts and his comments, nevermind before the league even hands down the decision.
Nicholson’s comments are about as pathetic when he got up in arms about the 2010 Olympic hockey jerseys not featuring the Hockey Canada long and tried to lead a revolt against the IIHF.
And,it’s meant to distract and play the “us against the league” narrative to fans who lap up anything the press up there or the Oilers tell them to think. It is also to garner sympathy from fans , and have Bobby Orr take note the the Oilers are going overboard to protect his client, if the faint hope it changes their mind about the clown show it is behind the scenes there.

McDavid seems disconnected. It was as if he hit Leddy, just because.

Couple people’s annual salaries. Makes sense. Sounds like society has its priorities figured out.

Let's just say that there are different ways one can do ones job then. I was very happy with how Treliving handled the Giordano and Lomberg suspensions earlier in the season, low key and respectful to everybody involved, careful to not put himself in the center of attention. Gretzky seems to be blending in just fine with the OBC and the Oilers company line with that ridiculous display though. Which of course is great news for Flames fans.

I'm seeing several oilers fans and media claiming that the league now interfered with the Oilers chances to get back into the playoff conversation, since they were apparantly on a hot streak after going 1-0-1. Yeah, because you are 8 points out of a wild card with a million teams to jump past to get there, and you have been the worst team in the league for about forever by now, but you just turned a corner so the league stepped in and stole success from you? So incredibly delusional. Isn't it about time to fold that sad franchise to end the misery for all those misled fans?

considering how many #1 they've won, the rest of the NHL think the opposite...

For perspective, I always try to reverse the situation.
How many games would the something in the water crew want Leddy suspended for if he leaned into a head shot after Notsqueeky McClean shot the puck? I’m pretty sure that a lifetime ban would be the shortest proposed penalty and Leddy would have to fight all challengers at the “Sweatpants and Good Shoes” Global HQ down on Jasper Avenue for the right to fly home from Leduc International Airport.

i wish i had the editing/photoshop(?) skills to basically do a 'player swap' and see the reaction by the oilers and their fans to the identical hit, but having mc headshot getting nailed by leddy.
i'm sure it would be an unprecedented battle to see who would be first from that organization/fan base to defend leddy

This season has 186 days and McDavid's real salary is $15 million, so for 2 games, he'll forfeit $161,290.32 USD.

Does bonus money affect this? Not sure how McDavids contract is structured, but for a guy like Tavares who is technically making league minimum since he gets most of his money upfront in July every year, would a suspension mean he loses two games at league minimum? If so, that's another reason for players to want their contracts structured that way.

At the 1:09 mark you can see McPuke leaning into the head hit.
Also with the leg left initially it looks like he may have been trying to A: take out a knee or B: avoid hitting a knee

Such a complete player, adding some power forward moves to his already wide repertoire.
Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the next phase in the Oiler Denial Process.

I don’t understand how Nicholson intends to “unequivocally support McHeadshot as he explores all his options”. This would only return salary to him as any appeal would be after the suspension.
Unless I suppose they want to try to remove his potential repeat offender status.

Just for show. To show fans, but more importantly McDavid and his uncertain camp, how much faux outrage they have and thus how much the organization care about McDavid and that he should never want to leave.
The contrast will be when the next Oiler gets suspended.

There are no real options. It's not a Wideman scenario. What Nicholson should do is put a damn sock in his mouth, let McHeadshot suffer the punishment, and then everyone on the Oilers can go back to losing just like before. You don’t defend a stupid ugly headshot unless you are a moron. Oh, wait...

Did the Oilers organization serious send out that twitter press release?
That’s pathetic. He got two games for an obviously suspendable play. Gio got two games earlier this year for something that wasn’t even half as obvious as this. Suck it up, and certainly don’t say that your fans deserve more.
What an embarrassment of a franchise.

this will give them a good excuse when they dont make the playoffs yet again. if it isnt the refs, it is the NHL, the same NHL that keeps gifting them 1st overalls. why else can a tram with such amazing talent continue to fail.
