Your flat assumption that professionals act in such a manner seems ridiculous to me.
The landscape has changed for contracts. Our players aren't idiots, and if they think "no one can make more money than me" then they better be happy losing Tkachuk, and not signing any free agents of note during their time in Calgary.
Stone is a top 5-10 RW in the league. He's a Patrice Bergeron type player but on the wing.

Actually, the only thing that is ridiculous here it that we're talking $10,000,000.

This is just simple math as I have not taken into account other factors, such as salary cap.
Stone has made about $20 MM and he is 8 years into his career.
Gaudreau has made $23 MM and he is only 6 years into his career. If you project that over 8 years, he will make roughly $37 MM. Roughly a difference of almost $17 MM over their first 8 years.
In this case, I don't think it's fair to think Gaudreau should be angry about being paid less. Especially because in 3 years, his third contract will be higher than Stone most likely when he is 9 years into his career (only 1 year more than Stone). Gaudreau has definitely had the better second contract and just needs to wait for his time to become a UFA just like Stone has.

Now that Duchene is off the market teams will dial in on Kevin Hayes. Sources says a few teams have inquired about trading for both Hayes and Zuccarello. #aggressive

Hoping the Flames can snag both. Wonder if Hayes would take a discount to stay with Johnny.

Hmm Red wings have recalled a goalie from the AHL.
Howard on the move? being held out as a precaution? injury?

I'm not really disagreeing on that front. Stone won't get 10M+ on a 7-8 year deal...at least I don't think he will, but the market is changing, so we'll see how it shakes out.
The 10.5M was a premium to keep him, and it was also only on a 5 year term.
It'll be interesting to see what happens here. Stone is very, very, very good though.

I would like Hayes, but would he re-sign here/would we re-sign him or just a rental? Seems like a guy who only wants to be in the east. Maybe his friendship with Gaudreau helps though.
Hayes + Zuccarello would be wild.

I hope Brodie fans watch the remaining games of this season as IMO it's likely his last season in Calgary. He's been a good player for this organization but it's pretty clear Hamonic will be the guy that is going to get the big raise in 2020 offseason from this team. Brodie will probably also expect a raise but how much can you pay a guy that can only look competent if he's playing alongside Gio who's not going to be around forever? Doesn't make sense to keep him over the young defensemen that are still on their entry level deals.

Especially since we only have a few more years of Gio training. Get Kylington up there with him ASAP. (I know he’s not quite ready, but that’s the pairing I see in the near future).

My guess is Zuccarello would be a rental. He may even go back to NYC in July.
But Hayes would resign or that would be the plan and assumption with his pal JG here.
Would you move a centre like Janko as part of a package, that would include likely the 1st rounder us other things, for both those guys?

Andersson looked pretty good in that spot for the Arizona game, I would like to see more of what that pairing is capable of.

If Stone signs an extension to wherever he gets traded to, I would guess he doesn't sign for more than $9,000,000. Nikita Kucherov, who currently leads the league with 100 points makes $9,500,000.
Stone has 62 points, If I could guess what a good contract looks like it would be $7,500,000 to $8,000,000 for 7 or 8 years.

Yahoo doesn't have a 'out for pre-cautionary reasons' field.
Stone, Duchene, etc. were all "Day to Day" on Yahoo yesterday as well.

That usually doesn't cause dressing room problems. Players may be jealous that they couldn't get what another did but they're generally happy for each other and dont cause a stink about what others make.
Now if Stone made 10.5M and scored 3 goals, players would call him out on his performance but that's a.bit different.

To be fair, Gaudreau and Monahan were both RFAs and we gave Giordano term past his prime years. So the situations are very different.
