Based on Pierre LeBrun's tweet ( https://twitter.com/PierreVLeBrun/st...40951512739841) from last night, it appears the Flames are looking at Mats Zuccarello. I posted my support of the Flames trading for Zuccarello a while back and I am still in favour of the move.
My reasons are:
(1) he will probably cost significantly less in terms of assets out than one of the big names: Stone, Panarin, Duchene, etc.
(2) he has been a productive player throughout his career (0.69 points/game = 56.58 points/82 games) and he is not slowing down this year with 37 points in 46 games
(3) he has only ever been positive in CF% relative to his teammates (this year he is +3.7%), which indicates to me that he helps his team possess the puck
(4) he will not complicate the salary structure next year as he is an UFA
(5) given that he will be 32 at the start of next year, the Flames may be able to bring him back relatively cheap if they really like him given that the market for older players has decreased significantly
(6) he has a reputation for playing hard and being feisty so he might be another body on the PK
(7) there are stories about him having really good relationships with his teammates ( https://nypost.com/2019/02/21/henrik...th-zuccarello/), so I doubt he would disrupt the team's chemistry
(8) He has posted very strong results this season while playing on a bad team and against much better competition than the teammates he is playing with ( https://public.tableau.com/shared/WM...play_count=yes)
(9) The lines could look like this (I apologize in advance):
Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Zuccarello
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Mangiapane/Czarnik/Hathaway - Jankowski - Ryan
Personally, I love those lines.

I do not want to lose Hamonic, he is a warrior and a guy that is built for playoff hockey on a great contract who wants to be here.

Reading about Ho-Sang on tsn. He would be an interesting guy to pick up. Lots of skill.

Agreed. Would need to find a way to keep Hamonic in the fold. If Neal can have a decent playoffs to bring his value back up, maybe he's the odd man out instead?
Or Tre works his magic and gets both Tkachuk and Stone signed for sub 8.

I would do everything listed except trade hamonic. Our defense is like ten ply without him.
I also think that term (I.e. 7 or 8 years) could drive down the aav for stone, and a bridge could be used for tkachuk. If stones aav can come in around 8 or 8.5 it's much more feasible.

Would rather try to aim for Hayes and Zucc in one deal. Maybe something like Jankowski, Mangiapane, 2019 3Rd and 2020 2nd.

High risk, high reward.... I don't like it personally, as I think chemistry and ego plays a big part in how the Flames are playing so well. And I don't think there is a room big enough for Ho-Sang's ego.

Ho-Sang is one of those guys each team thinks "we can turn him around" and then says "I guess we couldn't".

Re: stone contract
5 year 10.5 mil is 52.5 mil guaranteed. Takes him to 32.
Flames could offer something like 7 @ 8.5 million, guaranteed 59.5 million and takes him to 34. How much does he think he'll be worth between 32 and 34
For tkachuk bridge I would point at kucherov. Want to win a cup matty? Stone being on his line most likely would also be a plus. We wouldn't get the same discount Tb got, but might be able to swing something in the 5.5 mil range for 2-3 seasons.

The news that Stone and Dzingel are on the market is great great news for buyers. The market is full of options for the limited buyers.

It depends. If Dorion sticks to a high asking price or doesn't let teams talk to Stone/Duchene about an extension, it is going to hold up the market.
Stond and Duchene appear to be Plan A for almost all the contenders.

Who plays goalie for us next year if we add $16 Million to the forward ranks?
I'd rather we resign our current guys and put some money in a high end goalie.
We score a lot of goals. We can do a better job stopping them.

I suspect Stone thinks he will be worth 7-8 at age 32. Or more depending on the cap.

Only goalie I can think of is Bob and I doubt he would come here unless we overpaid like crazy.

With them being the hunt I doubt they trade them. I think Nelson would be a great pickup

Perhaps, but lately over 30 players have not had great success in signing big contracts, and teams that do sign those players often get burned... with the league trending towards that 25-26 age for big money contracts, maybe stone will take a calculated risk and go for more guaranteed money.
