So you make a move based on a possible round 3 matchup?
Getting way ahead of yourself.

Doubt it. Playoffs are such a crapshoot that I doubt the Flames are worried about the Jets.

No, it does not force the Flames to do anything. Treliving is very prudent and will not make reactionary moves, unless a deal is there that makes sense mid and long term.

as great as Stone is, I don't think it makes sense to have $22M+ second line
Tkachuk $8.5 - Backlund $5.35 - Stone $8.5
that would be over $4M more the the top line
I think a legit 2nd liner like any of the Ranger players in the rumour mill would be a good fit and fill the need without screwing the cap or losing crazy assets

Imagine being Pierre Dorion trying to manage possibly 3 franchise altering transactions in a period of 3 or 4 days. RIP his cell phone.
I trust Tre will be able to take full advantage of this very unusual situation.
Edit: LOL - I see #melnykout is trending again. Pressure is on!

Or you can call that what it is and be happy to have two lines.
Look at Pittsburgh or Washington. They have two first lines.

Any line that has 2 PPG guys that are in the top 30 or so in league scoring is not a 2nd line.

Two #1 lines, a still solid bottom six and 8 NHL dmen, 4 of whom are 22 or younger and only 1 older than 28.
Only question mark would be goaltending, which is admittedly scary but both guys are capable of getting hot.

That line has the potential to be as good as marchand-bergeron-pastranak

If Stone is even willing to sign in Calgary, just sign him in the summer.
Neal will have to be dumped and it’ll probably cost roughly the same to dump him as it will to rent Stone.
This core has earned themselves a shot at the playoffs with the group they have.

Toronto is struggling quite a bit. They still desperately need a right side D. I wonder if there would be a possibility as a trade partner with us somewhere?
Say centrepieces being Brodie for Kapanen?
A real hockey trade.

If 5x$10.5M offer really is on the table as it has been reported, Stone would be silly not to take it. I am 99% certain he's re-signing in Ottawa.

If Stone is being offered over 10 now why is he taking $8.5? As was discussed before, the 2 extra years probably don't move the needle.

Because he is young, good, right handed and it seems possible Brodie could be traded in the off-season in any event? The emergence of Andersson, the return of Stone and Valimaki might make it possible. Get to keep your first pick and prospects. Just spit balling.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Kapanen
Bennett-Jankowski-Neal
Frolik-Ryan-Hathaway
Mangiapane
Gio-Andersson
Hanifin-Hamonic
Valimaki-Stone
Kylington
