Michael Russo @RussoHockey
Flames GM Brad Treliving at the #nyr #mnwild game....
Loads of scouts here, including Pens asst GM and once Wild GM candidate Billy Guerin

Does it give us the upper hand that we would like to re-sign him if we are making the trade? Not sure Winnipeg is in a position to acquire Stone other than just for a rental? Same thing could be said with Boston and Nashville. Wouldn’t it be in Ottawa’s best interest to find a partner that wants to resign him as It would have an impact on his value?
I honestly believe it’s time to sit back and let BT do his magic.

Frolik, Brodie, Smith off the books with cheap replacements I think is a good start.
Bennett is part of the 2ndary core and is going nowhere.

Also, once Tkachuk starts getting paid next season, having a player like Kylington playing above his ELC salary will be key to keeping our competitive window open.

The 1st + Jankowski should be the core of any deal, and if it takes Dube as a final sweetener, so be it. It makes even more sense if the big fish they go for is a centre ie Duchene, who allows them to absorb the loss of Jankowski.
Monahan
Backlund
Duchene
Ryan
That's fine centre depth.
Don't trade Kylington.

What do you mean retained? Sens trade the Flames Stone and retain salary on whatever his new UFA deal is?

Is that even allowed?
Also can’t see Melnyk paying a guy to play for us that long

I hope Treliving is watching both Staal and Zucker tonight in addition to Hayes/Zuccarello. Both would be solid pieces if we could get either of them.

I dont think the Flames should be trading jankowski. Only big center flames have. Great on faceoffs and pk. Going to put up 30+ points on third line. Guy is solid.
Czarniks play lately - more so his speed has really added a new element to the third line. Playing like lee stempniak.

That’s the same as taking a player out of it. Then his proposal really comes down to Jankowski and a 1st as the only assets of significant value. They’d have to think Janko was on the verge of being a star.

I would love to see Mark Stone wearing Flames' jersey, but only if Treliving can pull a rabbit from his hat and have him at a good-term contract price comparable to Gaudreau's and Monahan's contracts. Giving away 2019 1st+young player+young prospect seems fair. Adding another draft pick as a kicker - maybe, if that gets the long-term deal done; I'd understand that too.
I would also be happy if Treliving signs Stone as a rental for the remainder of this season in exchange for our 2019 1st+young prospect/player (Dube or Mangiapane), although I'm 100% sure this is not happening.
But I would really hate seeing Stone signed for the largest contract amount on the roster and potentially disrupting a good team chemistry we have now. Then again, I am positive Treliving wouldn't do it.

Hmmm... I wish I had watched more of Stone. I really have no understanding in what exactly you're getting. looking online, a 6-4 RW, who's good for 60-70 points, so basically a first line RWer who is only 26....
Sounds enticing. There's no way any of the assets in play the flames move ever become that in my opinion. That being said, the volume of cost controlled assets could become problematic, as the cap crunch begins to mount.
I'd be ok with:
1 of: Frolik or Neal ( I know, I know)
2019 1st
1 of Gilles/Parsons
1 of Dube/Mangiapane
That's assuming we can get him signed though. What is his UFA pricetag even look like?!?! $8.5M/year?
Assuming we trade Brodie at the draft for picks (could we get a couple 2nd rounders from detroit which is near to where he's from?), get tkachuk at 7.5/year, Bennett signed at 2.5/year, rittich at 3.5/year, that leaves about $4M to fill out 12/13th forward, 7th d, and a "backup" goalie option.

Dilion Dube is a 20 year old first year pro with 25 points in 25 games. Spencer Foo is a soon to be 25 year old with the same number of points in 50 games. It's fine to want to replace one prospect with the other, but it can't totally change the dynamic of the deal.
One is a legitimate prospect with middle six potential while the other will be fishing for a contract in Europe this summer.
