you forgot 3 more 1st overalls, several top 10 picks and them being in cap hell. It's stunning.
said it before, I honestly don't think you could screw it up worse if you did it on purpose.

Seriously, what does this article do for any party?
In this case Rishaugh gets a scoop, the Oilers get some free airtime on TSN to satisfy Lowe's ego. He still thinks this is the 80s, where, becuae he's fractured the relationship with most GMs, has to resort to glorified press releases by one of his media lackies, to communicate with teams and agents around the league.
And for the general public, it gets conversation started, which inevitably leads to the Twitter keyboard warriors generally panning the player, making the impact and lower return they are going to get, much more palatable after a few days or week.
But, Lowe mainly wants to have it known to any and all, that the Oilers are desperate and open for business.
Many reasons to be thankful as a Flames fan, but having a history or professional GMs (outside of 3 years of a blowhard) who don't need to resort to media cuding to either seek the validation of their work or thier franchise, to help engage in team rumors, and mainly have the press do the work around the league that Lowe and his executive should be doing personally.
Next step as the snowball gains steam in this situation now that the public has been alerted to the potential Oiler plans for the player, will be an article tomorrow from Staples or Jones or one of the other twits saying the guy is a good hockey player but not a good fit for the Oilers, (with intonation that the culprit is Chia, who can't defend himself) and its time to move on. Thus, the article pumps him up to try and salvage any trade value, but gets fans to believe Chia is to blame for the less then stellar return they will get and a parting half shot at the player for not adopting the Oilers way.
Players leaving have happened so many times before, it's like clockwork.. Chia's departure started a couple weeks early with an uncertain column from Staples and it got nastier from there as the media snowball started rolling and dictating the narrative.

over thinking it.
Pool party wants out; the oilers are saving face while setting the stage to move him like it is their decision.

And now with a horrible goaltending duel. I wonder if they're going to be completely demoralized today on the Island.
This road trip was going to decide their playoff fates, being 8 points out (ROW) with 4 teams between them and a playoff spot all with better records over the last ten. The Oilers are a waking deadesque corpse waiting for tonights head shot of mercy.

17 picks in the top 40 in the last 10 years...
the fact they cry about their lack of talent is hilarious and at the same time, pretty maddening...

There's definitely something in the water up there in Edmonton.
It appears to lead to an overarching symptom of remarkably stupid trades being made.

Seems like a good time to update the ole' Crosby vs. McDavid trajectories:
Penguins first 4 Crosby reg. Seasons:
161-125-42
3 years in playoffs; won 7 playoff rounds, including a Stanley Cup.
Oilers first 4 McDavid reg. Seasons (so far):
138-137-28
1 year in playoffs; won 1 playoff round.

"Johansson will be a sneaky good trade deadline pickup for a contender now that he’s healthy and playing well. He has a 5-team no-trade list but my understanding is that none of those teams would be in play anyway."

I loved listening to Remenda making excuses for McDavid gliding back on the back check yet again last night. of course he was out of gas, he is never out of gas in the offensive zone. watching the effort and compete level of Crosby all over the ice makes it clear for me that McDavid will never be the all round player as long as he stays where there is no accountability

They can stay right there. At 5th OA they'd draft and develop a dept journeyman type player at best.
Top 3 is the only range where the Oilers are really a danger to draft an impact NHLer.

It doesn't matter who or where they draft. No one can save the Oilers.
Not David McGenerational.
Not Dr.Drai.
Not their 3rd overall pick that they just sent to the AHL.
Not Sam Gagner.
No one.

It's a fairly sharp shift in the McDavid narrative from a couple months ago...

25. Edmonton coach Ken Hitchcock asked Mike Modano to watch a few Oilers games and send some notes about McDavid. Via text, Modano said you’re always working on playing without the puck.
“The best way is to have [McDavid] kill penalties. You have to stop and start a lot more, face the puck. Not swinging away from it. All the best players had to implement this, or their teams would have never won.”

I hope LA wins today and they drop to 28th. Ducks and Kings still play each other three times. Oil will be 29/30th at the end of the year.
