The best deals the Flames can offer I think are:
2019 1st Round pick
2020 1st Round pick (maybe make this conditional on Stanley Cup and if no then its a 2nd Round pick)
Dube/Petterson
Frolik (for cap reasons and so the Sens can flip him for a 2nd round pick next year)
or
2019 1st Round pick
2020 2nd Round pick
Kylington/Andersson
Frolik (for cap reasons and so the Sens can flip him for a 2nd round pick next year)
I think Valimaki is the one you keep no matter what. Both Kylington and Andersson are good but have some warts.
Can the Jets beat those packages? The firsts are the same, so it comes down to Vesalainen and/or Niku versus Dube and/or Kylington/Andersson
|
The Jets, if they think they can get Stone signed to a reasonable deal, may even be tempted to move a pending RFA in the deal.
The Jets are pretty asset rich and this is their year. I think unless the Predators offer up multiple 1st rounders, no one will be able to compete with what the Jets offer Ottawa.
The caveat being there is someone in the Flames system the senators covet with an unnatural amount of zeal, in which case maybe the Flames have the inside edge. Is that prospect Petterson maybe?

This would make a lot of sense, I think. Winnipeg not only has to juggle a bunch of crucial RFA and UFA contracts over the next two years, there are also internal budget constraints to navigate.

I think if the Flames had their way, they'd go with option 1 and put Petterson in the deal and keep Dube and the defensemen for depth this year. But even if the Sens insist on Dube, the Flames should still make that deal as they do have some forward prospect depth in Mangiapane, Phillips, Gawdin etc.
Can the Jets beat those packages? The firsts are the same, so it comes down to Vesalainen and/or Niku versus Dube and/or Kylington/Andersson

I really want to avoid moving one of those 3 young Dmen in the deal since I think we are looking to add to the blueline and not subtract from it and those 3 our clearly our 5-7 Dmen in the playoffs.
I could see it being a 3 team deal or a separate deal involving Frolik and those assets going to Ottawa in addition to our 1st and Dube. The simplest way to cover both sides off the rental/extend risk is the conditional pick.
Flames send: Frolik, 1st, Dube, 3rd (becomes 1st if they win cup/re-sign Stone). If Stone is a long term fit for the Flames then they pay a hefty price as 2 1st, roster player, top prospect is steep for a winger.

Is there anything better than getting a notification from the TSN app - which doesn't send them out very often - thinking its going to be about some NHL trade and then you open it and its about Joe Schmo signing with the Ottawa Red Blacks.

May or may not be trade related, but wild speculation will say that Dzingel is about to be traded.
Dean Brown @PxPOttawa
Dzingel is here but not on the ice. Coach will update after practice.
update:
Brent Wallace @tsn_wally
Sounds like a minor injury for Dzingel. Boucher will update after practice.

Taking a while to get to 5000

If he comes here I have to buy a jersey. Wife loves just saying his name.
At proper times mind you.

TSN stinks, Bob is the only thing keeping them relevant in the hockey world.

With a d man being one of our top parts to aquire any big trade, what category do you put them in? For myself, it would be,
Untouchable:
Gio, Hamonic, Hanifin, Andersson, Valimaki
Tradable:
Brodie, Stone, Kylington, Prout

Don’t trade away any vets until the draft. Only move the prospects if it’s the right move. I’d deem Valamaki untouchable at this stage.

If anything I suspect Winnipeg would have more interest in Duchene. They need a 2C far more than another winger.

That was the consensus but most of the talking heads are connecting Stone now. Local boy, better chance to re-sign, and honestly just the better player.
Considering the Jets have Wheeler, Laine, Connor, Ehlers as their top 4 wingers and Little is their #2C then it makes way more sense they target Duchene.

Ehlers is still out though, which leaves them with not much (after Wheeler) down the right side. And his return was just pushed back. He's 1-3 weeks away at last report.
