Would be a huge get for Calgary, although I doubt Minny moves him, he’s simply too important to the team.

But that is the exception. Most of the arguments over coaching gravitate around these unconvincing, anecdotal claims of causation from correlation. Most of the advocates for a coaching change make these typically binary projections which seem to treat all goalies as equal, absolving them of all their own skills and deficiencies. The fact that goalies who struggled in the Flames organisation have continued to struggle elsewhere is a pretty good indicator, I think, that Sigalet is probably not the problem.
Occam's razor would rather suggest that Hiller, Ortio, Elliott, and Johnson are just not very good goalies. Ramo suffered a NHL career-ending injury, Smith is at an age that is unsurprisingly catching up to him, and Rittich is still learning to play lots of games at a high level and manage to pressure.
But that's not the definition of insanity.
|
Agree with all of this, except the definition of insanity part. I believe it was Alexander Hamilton who first defined insanity this way. Pretty sure Lin Miranda wrote a song about it; humming it to myself right now.
It is interesting that Sigalet has remained through various regimes. Other sports routinely change position coaches if the club's results aren't what they like. Flames have no problem going through coaches and so I have often wondered exactly what the philosophy is with respect to the goalie coach.

How any management could have faith in Mike Smith right now is beyond me.
Worst goalie in the league? Yeah...yeah yeah yeah, all good!

Would you rather them say they do not have any faith in him at all ? Sewer him for the season.

The loading up for this year and dumping Neals contract proposal... Jankowski and the 2nd are basically a sweetener to take Neal while Brodie and a late first is for Bob and Panarin
Panarin @ 6m
Bobrovsky @7.4m
For
1st round pick (mid 20s likely)
2020 2nd round pick
TJ Brodie @ 4.65
Mark Jankowski @ 1.67
James Neal @5.75
OR
Brodie
to Ottawa for
Stone or Duchene
Ottawa flips Brodie to Toronto for Torontos 1st round pick (likely a later pick as well)
Brodie has 1 more year left on it adding some value and I could see him having no issues with his modifed no trade clause to go to Toronto as his family is out there and he goes that way every off season.

He’s already eating anchovy and whipped cream pizza with Michelangelo and Donatello quite comfortably.

My preference of that SN list:
1. Duchene (Resoning, Center, I want more centers, we need more. Pushing Backs down to 3rd line duties could be YUGE)
2. Panarin (Game breaking skillset, does it all offensively)
3. Stone (Big modern RW with a whizz shot)
4. Hayes

How come?.... If I had to guess, 1/3 of the league wouldn't take Neal and our very late first for their own 5th right now. I can't see Neal improving throughout the span of the next several years and I can see it as a big issue for signing any new free agent. Jankowski also is slowly losing his role on the team. I like him but he is likely a long time 4th liner with this current roster.
This proposal loads up for this year and then you find a big chunk of open cap space going into this off season where there are some good looking free agents that Neals money would be better spent on.
Just my take... one of about 10,000 in this thread.

"Trade target" sounds a lot different than "Players available"

Not interested in trading for Panarin, where their is literally a 0% chance at resigning him.

While it is unfortunate seeing picks go, if you can acquire one of these younger free agent stars in the off season by opening cap space now, it sets your team up for the next few years at the very least while you can then re tool the farm.

Sure, but if you actually listened to that segment. No way they said the Flames are in on all of them.

All that for Panarin and Goalie Bob when neither will resign here. Let's give away useful players for rentals - NOT. I am game to let some players go for assets that can become part of the Flames going forward.
