People must think this is the NBA
Tampa still has a very tough road to the final (like any team does). They got beat last year with by Washington and both teams have essentially the same rosters. Caps did lose their cup winning coach though.
Can’t count out Crosby and Malkin either

Over the last 15 seasons, the President's Trophy champion has made it to the Final 3 times and won the Cup twice.
In that same time, the President's Trophy winner has been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs 4 times.
There are no guarantees.

One thing about Tampa is they have a lot of players on ELC’s making huge contributions to the team. That’s something to think about before trading away all of our prospects and picks.
Where would Flames be without Tkachuk and the young defensemen having such a big impact? I think it’s inevitable you will have a klunker contract or two on he team and so I don’t know if you can compete for a championship without high impact ELC players.

Tampa is also going to have to pay big for Brayden Point, who is an RFA after this season. As a player with two 60+ point seasons (including on pace for 104 this season), probably nothing less than $7 million/year. Then they are going to have a sizable group of UFA free agents that either need to be re-signed or let go to market. This also doesn't include small raises for Paquette and Erne, and the fact that both Gourde and Kucherov take sizable jumps in salary next year too.
Tampa is extremely good right now, but how long that is going to last? Who knows. There is a cost for playing so well.

When is the last time a presidents trophy winner ran away from the rest of the league like the Lightning are this season? While there are no guarantees it's going to take a monumental effort to beat them in a best of 7 series. Likely will require a goaltender playing out of this world and really this hasn't been a stellar season for goaltenders around the league maybe partly due to equipment changes but I just don't see any goaltenders this season that are going to be able to shut that team down for 4/7 games. They totally dominated the Flames in a nothing regular season game. Wait until they step it up a notch in the playoffs. They are the best team we have seen in a long time.

Not even close. Unless a long time is a few years. Washington finished the season with a .732 win pct a few years ago. Chicago with over .800 in lockout shortened season. TB is .772 but it’s only February.
One of the greatest regular season teams of all time, the 1995/1996 Detroit Red Wings, didn’t even make it to the Stanley Cup finals.

Forget their record...just freakin watch them. What they did last night they do on a regular basis.
Where is the weakness on that team?
Of course anything can happen but to suggest they arent head and shoulders better than anyone else in this league is odd to say the least, and if you had to pick one team to win the SC as we sit here today, is there ANY reasonable choice other than the Lightning?

Well what will Marner get?
Cause point has 9 fewer points in his career but far more goals than Marner and they both came in at the same time.
Point will be looking for 9M per.
TB has BIG decisions to make this summer.

They might be the most likely...that doesn't make it likely though
They could play the Pens in round one and the Leafs in round two, either of those teams could beat them and they will have all the pressure. Then there are injuries, goal tending, ect. I feel like we go through this every season. Heck if Mike Smith didn't blow 8 points the Flames would be right there. Not gonna base everything on one game where Calgary traveled from Vancouver to Tampa while they were waiting rested.

I do think Tampa Bay is so good already that players might be willing to take a relative discount in order to guarantee one or multiple Cup wins. I think most players would want to be part of that team that good, and would be willing to sign for less to be part of it. But time will tell, and this summer may reflect that.

Matt Duchene
Calgary 2019 3rd

Calgary 2020 2nd (becomes a 2019 1st if the Flames make the Stanley Cup Finals)

Calgary makes out like bandits.
Too much risk for Columbus
Not enough going to Ottawa
IMO

Is this... Is this a joke?
We get Panarin for a 2nd and a 3rd?
Ottawa gets a 2nd and a 3rd for Duchene?
If not joking, that seems very unlikely.

I think Marcus Johansson and a goalie. But if he doesn't play center then there will be a switch from Johansson to whoever is a center. Henrique intrigues me.
