Senators acquire : Frolik (4.3) and Stone (3.5) both have 1 yr left after this year
Flames acquire : Dzingel (1.8) and Z. Smith (3.25) Dzingel is a UFA, Smith has 2 yrs left after this year.
Smith would add toughness to 4th line and Dzingel can slot in for Frolik.

No thanks, Flames need toughness tougher than Smith. Bennett could probably beat Smith.
Plus the idea of moving Frolik and Stone off the books is to make room for Tkachuk or other UFAs in the Summer, so why take on Smith's $3.25 cap hit?
Flames have enough middling players making in excess of $3 million.
Moving forward, I think realistically, the Flames can afford one more top six forward in the $4 to $5 million range, like a Hoffman or Toffoli. There isn't any room for top end guys like Mark Stone or Duchene when you have to pay $8 million for Tkachuk.

I believe at the deadline we will have Stone, Duchene or Toffoli as well as an extension lined up. Sounds like we’re one of the teams with the assets and the need to do it.
With all the smoke and how great the wizard is at trades I’m very excited.

Because they are moving $7.8M off the books. It's hard to move cap without taking some back these days, especially Stone's.

Does .898 move the needle from Smith's .889? Not to me.
And Allen is signed until 2021 at $4.35M.

I skimmed over and I initially read that as Keith Gretzky was going to trade with Ferguson, to which I thought, is it possible for two GMs to make a trade and both lose?

But both Frolik and Stone's contract have 1 year left. Why acquire a guy with an extra year? And he's not even a good player. Why not just keep both guys? Especially if they have enough cap space this year for Dzingel type cap hit.
I don't think the Flames need to take on a bad contract to get rid of Frolik or Stone. Both are still good players, better players than Zack Smith.
I guess I see what you are saying. It's a creative way to acquire a top 6 rental without paying a good asset. The cost to get a good player in Dzingel is to take on the Smith contract. I just think they'd be better off waiting to the Summer and dealing Frolik and Stone for mid to low round picks instead of taking on Smith's contract. Especially since signing Tkachuk is the priority. They likely need to clear both contracts.

Last year we had the Hamilton's so why not the Stone's this year?
And we all know that all good things come in threes so next year we get the Sedins out of retirement! (green text)

TSN's most notorious #outsider Darren Dreklund is trying to claim we don't have the assets to upgrade both the goal-tending and scoring this deadline. I say just watch the wizard in action Dreklund. Watch the wizard in action.

Sadly I don't disagree with him. The only team I can see it working with is DET, but my faith in Howard isn't great either.

Is that the same plugged-in insider that said the Oilers were going to get a meaningful return for Talbot?

Here is where I am at. As far as rentals go I don't want us to do anything. If we can land a piece we can keep like Stone then great but as much as I hate to say it, I can't see TB not winning the Cup this year. They are just too strong. So no rentals.

I don't think he's wrong.
At least not without losing roster players, which we shouldn't be doing. Even though we haven't been as good lately, losing roster players could really negative affect team chemistry.

Pick up Stone and Nilsson from the sens. It would cost a lot but get them to take Smith and frolik have to give up Janko a first and a conditional first (ya, 2 first rounders) if Stone re-signs or something like that.

Goalies aren't that expensive. Anything would be an upgrade on Smith. Look for an upgrade at both positions to happen. You'll see. Then you'll believe.

TB is a great team, but realistically, their chances of winning the Cup is likely no better than 15%.
Even a team which has a 70% chance of winning every series only equates to less than 25% chance of winning.
