Sean Monahan, the joker (Athletic)
Last month it was Tkachuk, now Scott Cruickshank of the Athletic profiles Sean Monahan:
https://theathletic.com/815309/2019/...his-notoriety/
Quote:
Added Valenzuela: “He’s still the same guy. Modest and a joker — that’s pretty much it. It just depends on the environment. If he’s with the guys at his house or someone’s house, he’ll be himself and be really funny. If he’s in a public place, he’ll leave the pranks for later.”
One stunt merits re-telling.

Monahan is hands down my favourite Flame. Its crazy to think that he is only 3 goals away from setting a career high.

Then what is the point of having a thread about this topic on Calgary Puck? Everyone who pays for it doesn't need a reminder to goto the Athletic to go read the story.. hilarious.

I don't have a subscription to The Athletic.
I appreciate the thread in its current form.

How are you going to discuss it in this open thread with of us non-payers?
You guys should all give me $5 each and I'll tell you about the time I sat with him and Gaudreau at the high limit Blackjack table at the elbow.

I can say, with 100% certainty, that it's not him.

Seeing that we don't have a seperate forum for Athletic subscribers, I guess just exactly like this, in this thread.
Why should anyone be entitled to something for free, that others are paying for?

Great article. Ive hung-out with Sean numerous times and he is in fact a funny mother####er. Good to see that his childhood best friends are all still that close. Thats not something you see every day anymore, especially with people that all live in different places.

I posted it so that people that don't check the Athletic everyday would see there is some new Flames content. Although the Tkachuk article felt like it had more content, Cruickshank did a nice job with this piece.

Sorry, including that last sentence was a bit of a teaser -- I could have easily excluded it I do want to respect Bingo's platform and not run the risk of reproducing content that is behind a paywall... are there any guidelines for something like that?

not going to give away the content specifically, but generally, the article interviews Monahan's friends from his days as a regular kid...
goes into how surreal it is, and would be for anyone, to have a childhood friend become a star in the NHL...
recounting those experiences with sean now and how his "boring" personality isn't who he is around his friends or outside of the spotlight.
the long format articles in the athletic are really good...worth picking up a subscription as they often have promotional deals...i picked one up when they offered 50% off for the first year.

A summary isn't plagarism, and i believe there is something called the freedom of information act ( or something similar) that would protect this forum. Paywalls are stupid in this day and age and it doesn't matter how good the athletic might be, it will still fail like so many other site's and magazines that rely on subscribers.
My bet on boring Sean Monahan is Sigalet

The freedom of information act gives you access to information about you. As an example, you are entitled to see any information the Government has about you.
Freedom of information doesn’t grant you free access to creative content being produced and sold by private companies.
