Well my mistake...I thought you meant trade Backlund

Still to say Hayes is definitively better than Backlund and call anyone who doesn't think so homers? Kinda silly.

All those writers that voted Backlund 4th for the Selke are Flames homers?

I don't need to monitor your posts to know its mostly negative

I'm sure any Flames fan would want Hayes (depending on the price)

Hayes is a UFA no? So a rental? Makes less this year than Backlund (who has another 5 years after this). Can probably do both players for the stretch run and figure it out in the summer.

I am quite sure JG would love to have his pal Hayes in the team.

Hayes would be nice but Stone is target no 1. A player of this caliber at his age rarely becomes available. Thankfully Ottawa is run by total morons

Im just stating my opinion on what i think. That's what messege boards are for. I like Backs but i also think Hayes would really help us. Yes Backs is better on the Selke side we all know. Hayes would give us more options like i said.

You said Hayes was better than Backlund and accused people of being homers for for thinking otherwise, that is what I took issue with

I don't think anyone would argue against Hayes on team

Hayes would push Backs to the 3rd line to focus more on shutting down the opposing team. 3m line won't be together forever.

As much as I'd like Stone, the cost and uncertainty of retaining him, is too risky. Same goes for guys like Duchenne and Panarin. This year has been great but the core of the team still has too much to prove in the playoffs to be trading multiple high end assets to go for it this year.

I think you can still try and toggle the middle line of trying to really make a deep run (while evaluating the young guys in the playoffs) by making a splash at the deadline, and at the same time keeping crucial assets for the long term success of the team.

Thats why I think you target guys like Nyquist, Krieder, Zuccarelo, Hayes vs some of the other higher end more marquee players.

I would hate to throw in a boat load of chips for a guy like Stone, only to realize Monny, Gaudreau, Lindholm, Tkachuk, Hanifin, etc. still need to gain more playoff experience to really become a true contender. I mean the most experienced bunch of the group is who Gaudreau and Monahan with a total of 15 games.

Let the other teams pay an arm and a leg, and try and snag Nyquist or Krieder. These 2 have everything we need on the 2nd line, some sand paper to their game, speed and skill.

AGAIN, this is what I strongly disagree with

I didn't say anything about the 3M line or roles...would love Hayes on the team at the right price.

Alright I'm floating a blockbuster here. The instant quick fix for 3 teams involved. (Yes 3 teams!)
https://youtu.be/s3DQg_jtaAw (Insider Trading TSN)

I honestly think there is a solution here where all 3 teams win this. Each pick and player involved is someone that fills an organizational need.

---------------------------------------------------
To Ottawa:
David Rittich (2019 RFA/$800,000) - Potential #1 Goaltender, young.
Micheal Frolik (2 years/$4,300,000) - Veteran Top 6 LW/RW
Oliver Klylington (2 years/ $730,000) - Young Top 4 LHD
Jacob Trouba (RFA 2019/$5,500,000) - Young Top 4 RHD
Calgary 1st (25th - 30th pick)
Winnipeg 3rd round pick

To Winnipeg:
Mark Stone (2019 RFA/$7,350,000) - 1st Line RW, Winnipeg native.
Craig Anderson (2 years/ $4,750,000) - #1 Goaltender, playoff proven.
Michael Backlund (6 years/$5,350,000) - Veteran 2nd Line Center.
Michael Stone (2 years/$3,500,000) - Top 6 D, Winnipeg Native.

To Calgary:
Connor Hellebuyck (6 years/$6,300,000) - #1 Goaltender, Vezina nominated.
Matt Duchene (2019 RFA/$6,000,000) - Scoring top 6 center.
Bobby Ryan (*27% retained to 4 years/ ≈5,350,000) - Veteran Top 6 RW.
Josh Morrissey ( 2 Years/$3,170,000 ) - Strong Top 4 D, Calgary native.
--------------------------------------------------
Optional: Waive Mike Smith
--------------------------------------------------
And to just compare what each team gives up in this:
Spoiler!

--------------------------------------------------
And this is why I think teach considers this move to some degree.
Spoiler!

Winnipeg really gets ####ed on that deal. They lose Morrissey and Trouba, which is like an entire top D pairing. Also, isn't Craig Anderson basically Mike Smith at this point?

^ I think every single team gets worse in that deal with none of the certainty of any free agents signing and a major disruption to the team chemistry of two top teams...

Love the creativity to think this through, but I think we are so far gone from anything that could be considered a realistic possibility that I am just hoping for a sureloss post at this point.

Umm why do we get rid of our starting goalie and top d pairing? Replace wheeler as captain? Just no.

Wow, I'll have what this guy is smoking. I'll bet NHL19 give him an A+ rating for this one...

So, the Jets give up their #1 goalie and #2 & 3 Dmen to get a #1RW, #2C, a washed up goalie & a 5/6 Dman. Oookay.

So we’re trading away Rittich and then waiving Smith, but only bringing back one goalie? Who’s the backup?

At this point, if you're Tre.

Do you use the 1st round pick to get a goalie like Howard, ect (try to pry talbot out of EDM through a 3 way trade?)

Or use the 1st to get some more scoring with a rental?

If its the off season, maybe look at using your 1st on a goalie depending on how the season finishes out.

Now? Use the 1st for a scoring winger, but one you're certain can be re-signed. No rentals.
