Oh, the irony. You don't like CJAY, but you picked your CP handle based on the nickname of one of their DJs.
But I agree with the Jack morning show stuff. Their first problem was they were trying to be like CJAY; and I was listening to them because they were not CJAY. Now the whole "I'm a dummy" routine is wearing very thin.

I had been listening to CJAY for years because it was the only rock station in town. Now, Jack FM has really gotten on my nerves with their really unfunny morning show. Hopefully, one of the new radio stations coming to town will give me a good rock outlet that doesn't annoy the hell out of me.

That's exactly what I did. Forbes just got way too preachey, and I swear 1/3 of their playlist was Creed or Nickelback. I switched to Jack just for some variety. I've never cared for Matt (but I actually do find their commercials funny). Lately I find I just surf around. As soon as one annoys me I'll switch to the other (or Fan960).

No, I picked my CP handle because I am the Black Angel of Death and the Taker of Souls.

The problem I have with 'morning shows' in general is that there is hardly any music...if I want a ton of talk on my commute I'll listen to Radio 1 where at least there is a bit of intellegence in the talk..if Jack Calgary did what all it's sister stations did and turf the on air 'talent' I may listen to it more than I do now.

For a city the size of Calgary, they really do have a lack of FM choice.
For a city the size of Auckland, they have 10x the amount of radio stations and good variety at that. There is a frequency to tune in on almost every FM number.
What is wrong with Calgary? Just don't understand why there's so few stations there.

Exactly. The last thing I want to hear in the morning when Im groggy and somewhat grumpy, is some annoying moron screaming and farting (and a bunch of sheep laughing and encouraging him) to try to get my attention. All I want is some music to ease me into my day.
there is nothing worse than the "morning zoo".

What annoys me most is a great tume playing, then the host interrupting the last minute so he can talk some more about whatever he is blathering on about. Interrupting the song (or the AM versions of songs) really annoy me.

Thank goodness I don't have to Listen to CJay anymore!
We moved to Calgary over 1 year ago and the only complaint we had about our new great city was the radio stations. Welcome to Calgary 92.9 Xfm we tuned in today and we love it and we are going to spread the word to all of our friends who also hated listening to all the old Rock on CJay. It is about time this modern city had a modern rock station.

Most Jack stations, and their clones, still use on-air talent. The format (and is written into the licence, I believe) is that the stations need to be all-music for a period of time after the switch before DJ's are added. Jack FM Calgary was the same when it launched, iirc.

Of the Jacks I've heard in the States (LA, Vegas, San Diego), I believe only San Diego had any on-air staff and that was only a morning show.

Toronto is also no jocks on JACK, and Regina's Jack just has their morning show DJed....don't think it's any sort of CRTC requirement, just a programming change. I wouldn't be surpised if Jack got rid of their weekend people and just went morning and afternoon drive, with maybe somebody midday (they are jockless during the evenings now.)

I don't listen to the radio much anymore but it wasn't the DJs that annoyed me, it was the playlist they had to adhere to coming out of T O or N Y . Boring, boring, boring.

I miss Bob Steele "My hands are in my pants" schtick.
God, I hated that one the most.

Anyone catch the launch. The first thing they did was take a shot at CJAY. What has seven arms and sucks?

I dont get it?
I do know, however, that Xfm just played OLP followed by oasis and coldplay. Very solid so far.

Haha, X92 has some little advert about their "No Nickleback policy" or something like that. They liken it to eating hotdogs 5-6 times a day.
So far 5 tracks into it I have only recognized Green Day. The other 4 were certainly not what I'd consider real alternative (see Troutman's posts) but they are alternative in that I have not heard them on the other stations...one might have been coldplay....track 6 is Dave Matthews (I think)...
Probably the best station since the glorious days of 1060 back in the mid 90s. Driving back and forth a lot from Sask I looked forward to hitting the west side of Medicine Hat where 1060 came in clear.
