Apparently so. They took a private plane to Florida right after their final game before the All Star break according to Mike Russo.
Could be the first major package deal in free agency we have seen since Parise and Suter.

The large majority of pending UFA's are traded to teams at the deadline who have no real thought of being able to extend them in the offseason.
if that's your criteria of doing a deadline deal, you certainly won't do many.
By definition, pending UFA's are rentals. That's the price of renting players.

Taking a while to get to 5000

For the costs being demanded for either player, its too much for a rental. Therefore if neither player is in your long term plans, yeah if I were a GM that's a pass.

Lou will just go on LTIR after becoming allergic to goal posts or something.

Or retire and hit Vancouver with a massive recapture penalty right as soon as they have to re-sign their wonder children.

Florida.
"Not Even Once."
Is their agent someone who looks suspiciously similar to Vladimir Putin with a mustache?

Wasn't he a FA to start with?

Yeah, but subject to ELC rules, so not really. He could pick his team, but not his contract.

Last time he signed with his current team they traded him before the contract even started. I can understand why he wants to pick his location.

Carolina is as close to a playoff spot as you can be without already being in, just 1 points behind both Pittsburgh and Columbus (with no teams in between), and they have a strong 13-6-1 record in their last 20 games. They're more likely to be buyers than sellers.
But of course since they're in direct competition with Columbus, and division rivals, they're kind of the last team Columbus would trade them to.

Lots of talk they will be signing with the Panthers. It's probably a good thing for them to let their intentions known so other teams can move on to other free agent options.

Panarin declares he won't discuss re-signing with the BJs until after this season

What an awful trade for Chicago that was. To first let Saad leave, and then to trade Panarin for him? Good grief that’s such a huge misstep for an organization.

I think they needed the cap space.

It was $6M in and $6M out.
I think Stan Bowman went down the “we need to change up the mix” and prioritized Saad due to Toews/Kane relationship with him.

input from your vets is important but it's also important not to cater to them.
Sometimes what players want isn't what's best for the team, and it can be easy to confuse the two things.

That and hes earned it. If hes being honest and saying he wants to test free agency thats all a team can ask. Hes not leading them on. Pretty sure almost everyone in his shoes would do exactly as hes doing.
