Call a timeout then. Don't pull your starter earlier than you ever pulled Smith when he was struggling.

I get the Goalie pull, bit you have to have a goalie for it to work.

There is no chance Smith would have been pulled like that.

Agreed. The team had their heads up their arses during that 2 minute span where those goals happened. I thought Rittich actually made the right decision to try and play the puck there, but he unfortunately got burned. It happens. Team definitely needed a wake up call, and Peters made the move. Nothing wrong with the decision IMO.

Flames played better, but some terrible mistakes cost them 3 goals.
Johnny giveaway into fluke 5hole goal from the blueline...awful Rittich
Bennett giveaway into Rittich coming out to blue line to get the puck and shot it right into a Shark and he scored.
Then just a wide open shark in front of the net gets a perfect tip on blue line shot and goes 5hole, not the goalies fault, unless it's Mike Smith, Which it was.

Oh yeah, all Smith.
Goalies are permitted, hell, even encouraged to save tipped shots.

No disrespect to you, but Peters has had a really good handle on the team this year. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The Flames have been playing crappy for a while now. It was masked by the weak opposition they faced.
They need to play better defensively, they are cheating for offence too much.
That Johnny turnover is just inexcusable. Played the puck in to a crowd of teal jerseys as the last man. Such a dumb play.

Rittich is still developing. Smith isn't.

Would he have pulled Smith? Probably not. But I'm fine with Peters trying to send messages to Rittich.
It's all for the long game.

Sometimes they save Hail Mary muffins from way out as well.

So why does Smith get leverage when Smith has done what Rittich did there ALL season long?

It's not like Rittich typically does this. First time all year. Give him a break to see if he can find his game for the night.

A bi-polar game thread. Who would have thought? Flames made mistakes. Sharks capitalized. That's all. Lots of time left.

Could be a huge opportunity for Smith to start to turn his season around and buy some good graces with the faithful in such a big game.

Wondering if Dave was told before the game not to play with the puck, hence the insta-pull
