Frankly, I doubt they're sincerely worried about it.

The fact of the matter remains that most of the Edmonton Oilers' roster wouldnt crack any other NHL roster, so the only reason most of those guys are NHLers is because of the existence of the Edmonton Oilers.

So they're probably thrilled to death about all things Oilers.

No kidding. McDavid's interview begins in the 10:00 pm hour @ the 17:40 mark; Spector's savage question and his response are at 18:30:

Looks like Hitchcock is all but guaranteed to break into the top 10 for most loses for an NHL coach. Sure a big part of that is the amount of games he has played, but it is also fitting it is happening as an Oiler. His coming out of retirement is slowing dwindling down his career points%. Looks like it will be dropping it below the current .601 into the .5s

Piling on can be fun. When your a fan of a terrible team you tend to at least get excited about the future. Brag about all of the young gun prospects coming up who are going to turn you into a contender for the next several year.

But when you look at the Oilers prospect list its like an 60 year old being told that you have erectile dysfunction that can't be fixed.

Edmonton's top 10 according to the Hockey Writers

1) Evan Bouchard (D) - We've talked about him and his skating. If you look at his stats this year his points per game and goals per game have dropped a bit on a loaded London team. Usually as players age they really up their dominance in Junior.

2) Kailer Yamamoto (RW) - Tiny, looked lost and confused in the NHL, isn't really lighting it up in the AHL with 4 goals and 9 points in 15 games.

3) Stuart Skinner (G) - Struggling in his first year .906 in the ECHL with a 3.20 GAA in 4 games in the AHL has a .876 Svpct

4) Ethan Bear (D) -undersized offensive blueliner who has been passed by Caleb Jones. has similar points to his first year in the AHL but isn't scoring goals.

5) Tyler Bensen (LW)- doing ok in his first year in the AHL with 6 goals and 35 points in 44 games. Projected to be a middle group winger, but isn't the best skater and there are questions around his offense at the NHL Level

6) Cooper Maroody (C) - picked up from the Flyers for a third round pick after the Flyers drafted him in the 6th round. He's a point per game player in the AHL.

7) Ryan McLeod (C) - Long term prospect in his fourth year in Juniors, not really dominating

8) Caleb Jones (D) - We saw him in the NHL, he had good moments, but a lot of really bad moments. Has surpassed Bear though

9) Kirill Maksimov (RW) - Having a good year in Niagra, he's being compared to Slepyshev who's happily back in Europe
10) Ostap Safin (RW)- considered to be a long shot project that will probably play in Bakersfield next year.

I mean we could argue that the Flames cupboard is a bit bare but mainly because of the number of players that have graduated. The Oilers really aren't graduating a lot, and their cupboard is really bare.

Anyone remember when the Oilers were almost the 2018-2019 Preseason Champions?

Rattie got picked in the early rounds of my draft, I lol'd. Actually I forgot that Yamamoto got picked by the same person, who is last place of course.

We could also do a fair comparison and look at Malkin’s 23 year old season. Like for like. After 53 games played Malkin was leading the league in scoring by 10 points over Crosby, scoring 24g and 55a for 79 points.

Generally, I like this guy's videos. A few thoughts:

--The points he makes about young guys filling roles for the Oilers are pretty important. From the minor-league talent available, who fills what spots, even if the Oilers actually can clear roster room from the current squad for them? It's the cap issues and contracts that prevent player-movement from the current NHL roster, but even completely eliminating the bad contracts doesn't help the Oilers, as none of the minor-leaguers is guaranteed to come into the NHL lineup and make a significant impact.

--While it would be a mistake for the Oilers to re-sign Chiasson, at this point, he is making less this year than some of the prospects' NHL salaries, according to the charting in the video. Think about that: Chiasson is being paid LESS this year than some of the Oilers' prospects (at the NHL level) and is producing. I have no doubts that the Oilers will reward Chiasson accordingly, thereby further handcuffing themselves in the process.

--His comments about Talbot are pretty much bang-on, in my opinion. As much fun as it would be to see Talbot resurrect his career with the Flames, I agree that a return to the Rangers makes a lot of sense and could be good for both parties.

-It really is unbelievable how many bad contracts are on this Oiler team and how many are beyond next season even. Like others on this board have said, I refuse to pin this all on Chiarelli--someone above him must've approved stuff like giving Russell his contract, or even Kassian's term. It's a organizational disease.

--Finally, amazing what you can do with a dry-erase board and some well-thought-out comments. Chalk another one up for us old guys who don't understand how to use and manipulate modern technology!

When I started to watch this video and listened to the guy walking us through the method and what he was about analyze, I immediately thought that this guy has a lot better grasp on the Oilers personell and cap situation than anyone employed in a management position by the Oilers over the last decade. If they were to hire this guy right now they would instantly and vastly improve their hockey ops department and could actually start to adress their problems. Good thing he's not an ex-player.
