They are playing professional ice hockey in North Carolina! 99% of their population have never skated before. Let them appease their fans.

All you (and everyone else who enjoys it) are doing is reiterating why they do it. Which just circles back to my opinion of what it is.
We have differing opinions, which is fine.

I like that Lindholm has some fire in him and all but from a non-Flames fan point of view that was a little overboard.

Is that Francis using the word "mercilessly"? Seems quite the overstatement. I have no problem with Carolina celebrating like they do, also no problem with Lindholm grinding their gears about it a bit.

Some people like to go to restaurants where they make the employees sing "Happy Birthday" to the customers as a way to draw people in and entertain them.
Some people don't.
That's basically what's happening here - sounds like Carolina management/owners have asked the players to be more entertaining as a way to draw people in and entertain them.
A lot of us don't want that at our restaurant but I can understand why some people do.

Just a whole bunch of stick in the muds in here. Where is the outrage with Johnny pumping purple gatorade into his teammates after a goal? haha

The whole if Dougie did that to us thing is silly to me. If it was his first time back and he left on good terms and got booed twice then the last thing I would say is that hes classless for mocking us. I'd be more ashamed that we the fans would be classless. I would of done the same thing 10/10 times. They deserved it, and it was hilarious and light hearted.

Yeah, but are waiters that have to sing among the best in the world at their core job? Do people come to the restaurant to watch them wait tables?
I’m almost surprised that the players union wouldn’t take issue with this mandatory fun. No way I can see that the players would genuinely like it across the board

That is probably true, but by the same token I imagine that they don't all hate it either. I suspect that none of them take it nearly as seriously as some fans think that they should.

Can you imagine the PR nightmare if the PA objected to it?

My girlfriend is a nut thief, and I need to hire a squirrel to find out where she left mine.

I loved Treliving's comment last week on the Fan wondering if even Vancouver had ever done a Vancouver to Tampa trip.

I'm good with people that like the Hurricanes celebration.
I'm good with people that don't.
I'm good with them booing Lindholm.
I'm good with his response.
I wish a pretty good hockey game was being discussed a bit more.

Can you imagine the outrage the PA has with clubs demanding their players go to visit children in hospitals? Go talk to schools? Attend autograph sessions?
No?
Same thing here. Players taking part in team rituals/events is just part of things. Its literally 60 seconds of time after a win to acknowledge the fans. Maybe some think its dumb while others love it....doesnt matter. No one is getting hurt.
Its what they do in Carolina and if you have a contract to play there you are expected to do so.

Hockey players by and large give boring interviews (same stock answers to interviewer questions, e.g. we got to get pucks in deep, be hard on the forecheck, play a 200 foot game etc.) and they get criticized for being boring. However, when they decide to step outside the comfort zone and give an unexpected response that a team or a fanbase might not appreciate, they also get ripped for it.
That to me is the Lindholm viking clap in a nutshell - A guy doing something that in response to being booed on multiple occasions and stepping outside the comfort zone. I thought it was great.

I liked when he joked about playing in Vancouver and then swing by by Tampa Bay like it was in the neighborhood.
