didnt realize the Oilers were playing, it is always enjoyable to go to the box score and see their "potent" offense being carried by their only 2 good players. If the german gretzky or McJesus dont score, it is a blowout, if they do, they still likely lose. this is about the time of year the team gets really serious about making sure 1 dimensional Connor gets the scoring title.
It feels like they should be close to last in the league for regulation wins before OT but it's hard to find web site that breaks out wins in regulation.

If I'm doing the math right (excel is being a pain this morning) then
Chicago has 11 regulation wins;
Anaheim has 12 regulation wins;
New Jersey and Florida each have 13 regulation wins;
Detroit has 14 regulation wins;
Edmonton along with Ottawa, and the New York Rangers each have 15.
Chicago has 8 overtime victories this year (and one shootout win).
Interestingly, again if my math is right, the Flames have 29 regulation wins, which is one behind Tampa's league leading 30.

One of the things about the trade with Carolina is that it’s the exact trade the Oilers brain trust would never make. They would over value players like Hamilton & Ferland.
For lack of a better example let’s say Nurse & Maroon. They prospectively could have actually had Hamilton if they surrendered Nurse, but they chronically overvalue & poorly evaluate players until the players have no value (Yakupov) or they can’t maximize an asset in order to meet an organizational need (Hall).
This is why they would never trade a defender like Hamilton who led this league in goals at his position because they would be blinded by their navel gazing beer goggles.
Except of course... Pronger, but then it gets back to the whole atrocious asset management.

There are real life examples already. When Seth Jones was traded for R. Johanson. It was rumored that the Oilers were in on it but needed to add (draft pick) to RNH to make it work. They believed RNH was better than Johanson.
The other one was the Hamilton trade. Boston wanted a 1st and Nurse for Hamilton. Chiarelli said no and he would just offer sheet Hamilton. Instead they ended up with Griffin Reinhart for that 16th and 33rd pick.
How much better would they be if their back end had Hamilton and Jones. Hall would have been kept as a there would not have been a need to trade for Larsson.
Granted not even those trades cold save the Oilers. Nothing can.

3 years at 4.5 million for .908 (even accounting for his Vezina like 10 day streak) and declining fast
.908 is the exact same as Talbot in 2017-18, who supposedly has become a failure of a goalie and the reason why the Oilers missed the playoffs last year...
For comparison, Karri Ramo was above .908 in all 3 years he was with the Flames. Apparently in Oilers land this level of goaltending is worth 4.5 million x 3
Even more puzzling is that they knew they were going to fire their GM so now the incoming GM is saddled with the deal. Wouldn't they want the new GM to decide their goal tending situation? This reaffirms to me that MacT and Lowe are still running things behind the scenes as this contract has their fingers all over it.

In what sense? They traded Hall for Larsson.

It's seems to me that they (Chia) overvalue (over pay) every contract by about 1.5 million.
McDavid 11 million
Draisaitl 7 million
Lucic 4.5 million
Russell 2.5 million
Koskinen 3 million
