Wasn't Toffoli the "rumoured" guy the Flames wanted for Iginla?

Man, so many people knew they should have traded Iginla earlier. Waited wayy too long.
That would have been a terrific package.

I could see Anahiem going hard for Stone and trying to turn it around on the fly. I think they have the assets to pull it off

Getzlaf is 34 and despite being the 6th highest scorer on the Flames, would instantly be the highest paid.
If we add another core piece via trade, he should be 28 or younger IMO.

I guess it depends how badly you want a SC, she long term price you’ll pay for it.
Getzlaf would increase our chances over the next few years to win the Cup.

I dont see Anahiem giving up with their current core. I think they chase playoffs every year.

I have no doubt, the Flames played Smith coming out of the break, looking to see if this guy finds his game or tocdetermine how much they need to find a tender to head into the playoffs. I see no other reason to play that guy in that game. Sure, Washington was winless in 7 and no Ovi. They have to be trying to determine if this guy is going to find himself or giving him the opportunity to get it together. I think it was clear which way they should go and they need to shore up that goalie spot. Just can’t see who would be the right fit.

I see Getzlaf as a guy who probably doesn't want to move. He's played his entire career in California and has built his life down there. He's already won a cup. I just seem him as a guy who is comfortable and likely has no issue playing out his career down there.

Sometimes small moves have big impacts. I’d love to see the Flames grab Nick Paul of waivers. Big body for the fourth line. Fast and won hardest shot at Sens skills competition at 108 mph. Our fourth line is way to small for the post season. Send Mangiapane back to the A where he belongs.

Yeah when you’re that good and there are 3 teams (4 if you count VG) all within that area, you can just Thornton your way to retirement. Sign 1 year deals, ‘no you can’t trade me’, no one is letting you walk next door.

If Getzlaf didn't already have his Cup and if he was in the final year of his deal, he'd probably be willing to accept a deadline deal to come back to the city where he played his junior hockey for a shot at the Cup. But, he does have his Cup and isn't in the final year of his contract, so he's probably content playing out his contract and retiring as a Duck.

What about Darcy Kuemper from the Coyotes as a backup? He's also from Alberta which is always a nice added bonus

That’d be a great add but a problem I’m seeing right now is that the bottom of the west is so bad that all teams down there still have a realistic shot at the playoffs so how many sellers will there be at the deadline? I’d personally take almost any goalie in the league over Smith at this point.

For sure, only really an option if the Coyotes fall off pretty hard in the next couple weeks.

I'd love to see Stone and Maroon come to Calgary to round things out before the deadline nicely.
Upgrade 2nd line scoring with awesome two way player, and address some toughness before the playoffs with Maroon.

Where does Maroon play to add this toughness? I can't see him anywhere but the fourth line. So Wilson nails Johnny and then what - send out the fourth line?

We'd be in the Cup Finals if that were the case. I'd take that scenario.

True - I guess prior to that you'd say Buf, or someone like Kane?

Fourth line. But so what? I think he's a waste of time on that team. Is anyone afraid to hit Marchessault? Eg. do you think Tkachuk is worried about Reaves when the Flames' second line plays the Vegas top line?
Or are you worried about Reaves hitting Johnny? Do you think Reaves (or Bif, or any other player) sweats Maroon? Or even thinks about what happens after a hit?
