Not sure why you're taking things personally on Smith's behalf.
He's not a good goaltender anymore. That's just the reality.

That's more due to how many cheap rides she's given out

What makes you think I’m taking things personally?
Once again don’t make assumptions about other posters
I don’t think he’s a good goalie either
But that type of post from ice cube is just nonsense

Based on save percentage, this is correct.
That's why the difference between 88.9% and 91.8% is actually huge.
Smith allows about 3.5 goals per 30 shots. Rittich allows about 2.5 goals per 30 shots.

Really? It's nonsense to think that if our crappy goalie was in net, we likely would not have won a tight game?
Also, how much of an assumption is it really when you rush in to defend Smith for... why? If CP is going to enact a rule that says Smith can't be criticized on a night he didn't play, then spell it out beforehand.

It’s nonsense because it’s an example of the unnecessary criticism towards him
And I didn’t say it was a rule

Because people are sick of hearing the negativity? Is that really so difficult to grasp?
When Rittich plays we still see comments like "That's a goal on Smith", or "We lost this game if Smith plays". Who cares? You don't see anyone saying, "Good save by Rittich. Smith saves that too." You know why? Because Smith isn't f'ing playing, Rittich is.

Sure. And if you or Jiri want to go after someone for making those comments in other threads, fine. But this thread *is* about how much Mike Smith sucks. If you don't want to read that, why are you running into a thread about that very topic?
And if Mike Smith has a problem with "unnecessary criticism", he can deal with it himself by playing better.

Just because it’s a Smith sucks thread doesn’t give people immunity to make stupid posts and not be called out for it.

Is this the Internet forum version of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object?
Its nauseating to read post after post of Smith negativity.
Relative to expectations Smith has been a giant disappointment, people are going to vent.
Round and round we go, where it stops, nobody knows!

Mike Smith is defended way more than he should be given he's the worst goalie in the league. There shouldn't be anyone defending him in any way, just say yep he's a great guy but doesn't have it anymore. Done.

The Smith ranting has become akin to beating a dead horse but as long as he continues to get starts you are going to have to accept that fans don't have a lot of faith in the guy. It's hard to ignore that he lets in a soft goal nearly every start and gets beat on shots a quality net-minder can save easily with better positioning. It's just a bad situation and the only solution is that Smith plays better or the Flames bring in a better goaltender to back up Rittich.

IMO posts that do nothing but cry about negativity are the most annoying of all. Nobody should be obliged to hold their tongue about important issues with the team just to protect your eyes from reading pessimistic posts. If people want to discuss how much Smith sucks I think that's fair, and this is the thread to do it in. If you're only after positivity the onus is on you to not click on threads where the opposite is likely going to be said. The Flames are the 2nd best team in the NHL, there is so very little to complain about this season. Fans are happy, times are good. There's no shortage of cheerful/upbeat content on this forum.

I agree. But here’s the thing, we’ve always had a bad backup. Sauve, Boucher, Mclellan, McElhinney, Joseph, Keetley, Toskala, Karlsson, Irving, MacDonald, Berra.
Rittich was the last good back up last season and he struggled big time when relied on as a starter.
You’d think it wouldn’t be such a surprise anymore. We don’t win when our back up plays. It’s been consistent for 15 years. It matters less this year than it ever has because he’s not gonna cost us a playoff spot and yet people are out of their minds, foaming at the mouth, wishing injury on Smith angry because he reduces our chances at victory when he plays. It’s embarrassing the level of panic.

How many starts did those other guys get? Smith is almost a 1b here. Absolutely 0 reason to play him last game. 0.
And then we keep hearing the radio crew talking how much we need Smith to get going for the playoffs. Umm, no we don't. The guy should only play a few games to rest a tired Rittich and never start at home. Again, playing vs the Stanley cup Champs after a long break was not a game you give to a backup.
