^ completely agreed.

I don’t think the team needs major change, as it is very, very good.

But as you note, there are specific depth positions with room for enhancement or reinforcement

Easy to fix, and cheap. Nothing fundimentally wrong. just depth, experience, grit and a goalie that doesn't sit back on his goal line and let everything in under his right arm pit

Where was Bennett i thought he was the muscle? This team needs to bulk up for the playoffs. Chucky shouldn't be fighting.

Well the team was trying to tie it late.

So Monahan, Gaudreau, Lindholm, Tkachuk, Giordano, and Andersson were the only options to go fight someone during that scrum.

Did you want Bennett to jump off the bench and get suspended?

He made a hit or two tonight. I liked his and Neals line. Second and third line to me did what they needed to do tonight.

It was a goaltending and crap powerplays against us which made the difference.

It was 3-1 and we were outshot 29-15, we were playing like absolute crap, and it was a close game. When we are on, we take over this game.

It's not Bennetts job though, he may have started to make a name as a hard hitter and I saw him make one tonight, but he is still trying to make a name for himself as a scorer he is not out there nor wants to get paid for just being a Kassian type

Bennett has talent Kassian has none. Sam is one tough player. To me he is the guy on this team who can do that kind of stuff.

We now know that Tkachuk will not get any calls anymore. His karma is coming back to bite him in the ass and I get it.

Just look at the way he over reacted after his slash to the leg earlier.

Don't get me wrong, I believe they were both worthy of penalties but he has made his reputation and he has to live with it.

So you're ok with him being a target? With no payback?

I don’t know. I could see ref discretion come in to play if they feel there is a borderline play and denying him the benefit of the doubt, but this was a flagrant violation of the rules.

They can’t continue to not call such obvious violations

That's about a blatant interference as you're going to get.

If the refs are going to turn a blind eye and forget it didn't happen I'm not sure what you can do.

After only managing to watch the highlights I am not sure how a lot of people are blaming Smith for the loss. 1st goal is a redirect, similar to a goal we scored, 2nd is scramble in the blue paint, 3rd could go either way but maybe that is the one you want back but the 4th is scored by one of the best scorers on the Caps, top shelf.
I think a lot of fans are very quick to jump on Smith whenever he plays and we lose, regardless of how the rest of the team plays. Yes he looks shaky at times but he also made some good saves on clear cut chances.
You win some, you lose some, you can't win them all.

That's why you can't judge a game just by the highlights. What you miss in the highlights is the play that lead to the scoring opportunity. You miss the boneheaded mistakes that got the team hemmed in or the give away that lead to the glorious opportunity. The reason Smith is getting roasted is because his wandering ways lead to a couple goals against. It was Smith and his desire to be a defenseman more than goalie that caused the breakdowns, more so than anything the team did.

The handling of the puck by the goaltender is a double edged sword. The goaltender shooting the puck around the boards when the defense and forwards are not in position to help is where we run into problems. Smith did it several times last night, and two of those #### ups resulted in goals against. If Smith would just stay in his net and not give the puck away, the Flames probably win that game. That's why people are upset.

Frankly, you had to know the Flames were sunk the minute Smith took to the net, even with the break of not having to face Ovechkin. With Smith they needed to score four to stand a chance of winning, and five for a sure victory. Tough to score four goals against a team as good as the caos, especially when they don't have a Mike Smith playing for them. Treliving needs to act and bring in a guy that can back Rittch up. Smith just ain't the solution.

I like how people forget every 5 days how bad Smith is in the GDT.
