Gotta bump this thread. I love what Bill Peters has done by why the f would you start Smith after a long break with non back-to-back games. If it wasn’t for some luck (ie. 2 posts), this game would’ve been long out of hand even before the Backlund penalty.
His goaltending has been garbage all season and honestly doesn’t deserve to start another game the rest of the season.

Flames need to acquire a goalie. Don't wait, do it now. Curtis McElhinney is my pick. Should be cheap and has had a really good past couple seasons.

He just looks lost out there. Often has trouble tracking the puck.
Would have likely given up another one if the refs hadn't whistled it down way too early and Gio superman dove onto the puck.

I mean lets be honest, Smith was ####ing lucky to not have that abysmal giveaway at the end of the game go in the net moments before they scored.
The guy is completely out of it. I'm so sick of watching him struggle to make every save and look completely out of position.

He gave up a freebie on the first goal and made almost every one of those 40 shots an adventure. Would it also hurt him to make a goddamn save when the game is on the line? He plays so deep in his net, he is always scrambling with his rebound control even after he makes an initial save. It’s like he doesn’t trust his defenceman to play the pass at all.
