That was a super greasy play by Backstrom. Now he is forever in my bad books, until the day he retires.

Refs gifted this one. Caps need all the help they can get.
Flames need an answer to trash like Wilson.

Glad to see the Flames stand up for Johnny. Last year that probably wouldn’t have happened with Gluegun yelling at his boys to run off the ice.
Lastly, Mike Smith has better stats than most give credit. He kept them in this. That said, the guy gives me total anxiety over eveey shot. I could only imagine seeing that guy cartwheel around behind you plays out on the ice.
Move on, and BT get someone in there behind BSD by the deadline.

I didn’t think Kuznetsov had complete control of the puck at the blueline though which could’ve been an arguing point but it just wasn’t conclusive enough to risk getting a penalty - great coaching decision by Peters there IMO, Gully challenges that one all day lol.

I don't know why the whole team went after basically every Cap but Backstrom. As good excuse as any for a guy like Chucky or Gio to take another team's star to town.

Not to mention utterly pissed that they'd lost 7 in a row in embarrassing fashion.

The replay clearly show it wasn’t offside.
Took the refs about 1 second to determine that.

Don't mind the loss, they didn't deserve a point tonight. Can't stand that scumbag piece of garbage Wilson though, hauling down a rookie and throwing punches while he lay on the ice. Pathetic.

The 3rd? You mean the brutal giveaway by Tkachuk? Not sure if that was all on Smith.
Listen, I don't like Smith, but that game was lost because the refs clearly wanted Washington to win. Pretty obvious to me with some of the calls.

It's supposed to be making them pay on the powerplay, but when the refs don't call anything that doesn't really work.

Did you honestly think the Caps would lose 8 in a row? Not a chance. I dream of the day NHL refs will call games consistently, and fairly. But I feel with legalized betting coming along, it is only going to get worse.

Can’t take a penalty like that with 2 minutes. Sure he went down easy, but Backlund reached in. Unfortunate loss.

OK you can use that as logic -- but how many times have the Flames come back from seemingly insurmountable deficits this season? There are the odd games that this team loses when perhaps they shouldn't. This one... the Montreal game in November... there have been a couple. But there have been so many more losable games that the Flames have found a way to win.
It's not the end of the world. The Flames can afford a game or two like this. They shouldn't budget for them, but they can happen -- every team loses games they should win, and vice versa. We've been blessed to see far fewer losses than normal this year, but they are bound to happen, like it or not.

Playoff toughness does not include:
- slashes to the ankles
- boarding small players after the whistle
- punching a prone opponent on the ice

I hate the cheap shot on Gaudreau at the end.
Wilson pounding on a rookie defenseman too.
Learning experience for this team. Yes you're not a soft team, but you can't play a heavy game like the Caps. Have to play the way that you've had success.
The penalty on Backlund will get called more often than it doesn't. It just adds insult to a game that had awful officiating.
Hopefully Hamonic isn't gone for too long.
