Brassard is a rare player who has a higher ppg average in the playoffs than he does in the regular season in his career, and a decent sample size too.
About .66 ppg in playoffs (90 games)
About .59 ppg in reg season (756 games)
Having a bad year but at least there's that.

Dube?
M. Emilio Petterson?
Kylington?
If Treliving is paying a touted prospect, this is a risky move, even if there is more salary retained
The Flames have 4 top 6 guys long term, then Backlund who is top 6 now, but will depreciate by the end of his contract.
The pipeline looks to be churning out 3/4 line guys, but unless they hold on to Dube/Jankowski/Bennett they won't know if they have a 2nd line player or bottom half of roster.
Brassard is going to be a rental, as the Flames need to pay Tkachuk, and when this team ends up with Tkachuk making big dollars, they need the next wave of guys on ELC/bridge deals overperforming. Can't have that if we trade them away for a short term fix
Brassard may have had strong seasons, but he has a shooting percentage that rivals his 27 goal season 3 years ago, but only has 9G and 6A.
He is getting 3rd line minutes, but not generating much offense. A bounceback with a new team seems a bit of a stretch, especially considering how our 3rd line is going now

Watch it happen but only because I mocked people for suggesting it and this is how the universe works.

I wouldn't be too surprised if we picked up Brassard. Didn't someone on here say we were really close to getting Rask before he was traded for Niederreiter? From that, I figured Tre was looking to get a 2nd/3rd line C.

Yeah it was the same poster who just mentioned Brassard:

Wont tell me more than that.

I wouldn't be surprised either.
He gives the team added depth at center and takes a bit of the 5 on 5 load off Jankowski.
Jankowski is an excellent penalty killer so he can be a specialist while learning the 5on5 game platooning with Ryan at 4th line center.
If Monahan or Backlund go down, you have a veteran center to fill in.
I would be scared to see the price, but in a down year he could come at a discount.
Pure rental in my eyes. Plus it buys the team time with Jankowski to see just what type of player he is. Without making him sink or swim in the playoffs.
Wouldn't surprise me at all.

not particularly a fan of Brassard especially if you lose a Dube for a rental... much prefer go after someone like Dzingle or Nyquist then if you are paying a high prospect... Brassard for a picks is more palatable
imo

I can’t see a Treliving, in his right mind, giving up anything more than a lower level prospect for Brassard or maybe a fourth round pick. He’s a cap dump player

If you think Brassard is worth a fourth-round pick then don't count on getting anything in a trade, ever, because the GMs would laugh at your offers.
He is not playing up to his standards but he is most definitely not a cap dump, especially as he's UFA this summer. He might not be the best fit for the Flames, but that doesn't make him trash.

Brassard has been a pretty great playoff performer in his career.
59 points in 90 games, a higher PPG than in the regular season.

With the amount of forward rentals that could be on the market, I'd rather see what those assets get us closer to the deadline rather than 3rd lin C Brassard.

We have been heavily scouting the pens lately, anywho like i have mentioned guy has some sources out east.
Things can change quick though as GM's outbid others all the time but dont be surprised if Brassard is gone within the next few days.

Still believe Marcus Johansson is the guy the Flames should get. Will be cheaper to acquire as well I think.

Brassard fell off a cliff this year both in production and his possession and advanced stats. Was still getting 15 mins a night for the Pens too.
Jankowski has been weak as far as advanced stats and has still outperformed him on every level.
He's also not a great faceoff guy. It's not a move I'd love to see for more than a throwaway pick or prospect either. If it's a low round pick, fine, add the depth, no concerns. For a good prospect, big pass.

If we get brassard it wont be for a guy like dube or kylington. It will be for a 3rd or prospect like gawdin, mangiapane, or phillips

Brassard has just recently been traded for a 3rd round pick to Vegas, and a 4th round pick and Ryan Reaves to Pittsburgh.
Considering the year he is having I can't possibly imagine he would net a prospect of Dube or Kylington's ability. Treliving is better than that.
I could see a deal around Mangiapane or Phillips but not the two aforementioned names.

That is misleading the return. It was a complicated trade with more pieces involved because Vegas had to get involved and got broken up into some smaller trades
Sens got: Filip Gustavsson, Ian Cole, 2018 1st, 2019 3rd
Sens give up: Vincent Dunn, Derek Brassard, 2018 3rd
Vegas got: Ryan Reaves, 2018 4th
Vegas gives up: 40% of Brassard's salary and cap hit, Tobias Lindberg
Pens got: Brassard @ 60%, 2018 3rd, Tobias Lindberg, Vincent Dunn
Pens give up: Filip Gustavsson, Ryan Reaves, 2018 1st, 2019 3rd, Ian Cole, 2018 4th
The sens trade Cole 3 days later for a 3rd and a career AHLer.
In the end the Sens got a pretty significant return for Brassard

Calgary better look hard at aquiring a decent goalie ASAP. Might not be a better chance for the Cup like this year in our lifetimes. If Rittich goes down we are done. I'm also not 100% sold on Rittich for a lengthy playoff run as well. We need someone dependable for either senario.
