Could be useful if he can get his mojo and passing going for playoff games where he has to play. Take the pressure off the players from the bigger teams and board play.

Let's hope he find his Smith gear right about now.

It's a really weird decision to start Smith off the break after Rittich had just established himself as the clear #1.

I'm trying to decide if the Flames are toying with the idea of keeping Smith as the backup for the playoffs. Starting him against a tough team like the Capitals is a good test for that.

Another good save on Eller there. Pretty good game from Smith so far.

God people set the bar so insanely low for this guy

Costly give away that lead to the goal (which was completely against the flow of play at the time). Team lost all their jump after that

His only nice save is off his own turnover. Trying to do too much

Look for a big couple shifts here. Would be great to get this tied up before the intermission.

Ok. Substitute 'most' for 'lots' if it helps.

Sentiment remains. He gives away a lot of pucks that wind up in the slot off the side-wall.

Both guys were getting a game this weekend with 2 of them 40 hours apart.

Washington has been struggling, minus Ovi...this made sense for Smith while Rittich gets Sunday afternoon and a Carolina team who has been pretty good lately and want some payback from the last game before the break.

No it isn't.
They consider these two back to back.
So each goalie was starting one of the games.
Peters chose Smith to start this one because of his puck handling with players like Wilson barreling in on the D otherwise.
It was this one or Sunday. Peters chose this one.

Not really. The Flames seem to be treating the weekend games like a back-to-back set. Both goalies will play.

They are not so much "toying" within the idea as they are keenly aware that adding a new backup goalie before the TD is not especially likely.
