Hayes would be a perfect addition, I just think he would cost us our first...

Meant to say recoup the 1st at the DRAFT not deadline.

Am I the only one looking forward to taking a day off and then watching TSN scramble when there are no real big trades made?

I am surprised we didn't see more trades happen this week.

I think I have taken the last 3 trade deadline days off work and they always underwhelmed but the past few years have been a Monday so long why not have a long weekend?

I hope there is some good action on deadline day but honestly at the end of the day I just want the Flames to improve the team be it depth or a big fish and I don’t care when they do it.

That is true. My favourite part is interviewing traded players who are complete tweeners and depth players just because they have nothing else to talk about.

Mark my words: Cam Talbot is going to be the best bargain coming out of free agency this summer. Someone is going to sign him to a cheap contract, and he is going to look really good playing on any other NHL team than the Oilers.

I am still hoping it's the Flames.

Could St Louis be a landing spot for Talbot?

Doesn't change a thing.

Flames are not trading Gio, Brodie, or Hamonic.

If we move our 1st at the deadline I am willing to make a sig bet/avatar bet on that.

I mean, I'd hesitate before speaking in absolutes. We all said the same things about Hamilton last year. "He's not being traded, he skates like a deer, he'd cost 20 first-rounders, he's going nowhere..." and then, he was gone.

Treliving loves making big trades, especially in the summer -- he's made one every single year he's been a GM. Trading Brodie actually makes a great deal of sense in the long run -- he's not versatile, he's not cost-controlled, and he's playing a position where the Flames have a lot of depth.

I see Hayes as a first tier guy. He's on a close to 70 point pace for the season, big bodied centre, someone will pony up a first+.

Sounds like he could really improve the 4th line.

I agree with you, but I still think the cost to acquire him from Edmonton should be pretty low.

I don't agree. Teams that are typically labeled as trade deadline winners rarely are the ones that are left standing when the dust has settled.

2018 - Winner Washington only added a couple depth Dmen. The big "winners" for rentals was Winnipeg and Stastny. SJ and TB made trades that brought players beyond the playoffs.

2017 - Winner Pittsburgh added a couple depth Dmen. Rental winners were Minny getting Hanzel and Washington did pick up Shattenkirk.

2016 - Winner Pittsburgh added depth D (Schulz for a 3rd) and a 4th line forward. Rental winners were Winnipeg getting Ladd, Rangers getting Eric Stall and to a lessor extent Dallas getting Russel and Florida getting Hulder (both brought back 2nd rounders and change).

2015 - Winner Chicago traded for a depth forward. The bigger buyers were TB picking up Coburn and Boston getting Connolly

2014 - This is the first time in which we see a buyer make changes and ended up winning. LA brought in Gaborik and McNabb. Some of the other big trades that year were St Louis picking up Millerand NYR getting Martin St. Louis. Those last two were the big fish available.

I think you have to be careful trying to go all in.

Talbot leaving Edmonton is the dubnyk situation repeating itself all over again.

We've all seen this soap opera before, now multiple times.

Would be pretty nice to package a 1st and/or Valimaki with Neal to get either Panarin or Stone. Obviously Stone the preference, but Panarin slightly more likely. Take a run at Stone in the offseason with the cap savings, even if it's Panarin we get for this season.

Total pipedream, as Neal just holds too much negative value, but maybe CBJ might believe he can help them this season in the playoffs.

Getting out from Neal's contract is probably the best thing we can do longterm for our team - if we can do it for a rental this season, think that's not a bad tradeoff.

Yes I'm hoping Tre signs Talbot to tandem with Rittich next year.

I'm also firmly against a high cost big name rental.

Adding another young core piece is fine though.

He might be one of the untouchables on this team as it really looks like he is being groomed to be Gio's replacement in a couple years.

Yeah - I agree on how valuable he is. But he won't be the #1 in our cup window, so if Panarin or Stone can get us over the top, it might be worth it...

We've got Hanifin, Kylington, and Andersson as young DMen for the future to boot...
