For what this is worth (nothing-pretty much nothing?), the Flames are one of a few teams with 2 scouts at the Penguins-Lightning game tonight.
The Flames' representatives are Derek MacKinnon (Director, Pro Personnel) and Steve Pleau.

How much stock do people put into the presence of scouts into these sorts of reports in connection to potential trades? I have long suspected that most teams want to have as many scouts as possible in attendance at as many games as possible. Judging one team's interest in another team's players from the presence of scouts at a game is probably more coincidental than anything.

Brassard and Sheehan are their only two pending UFAs of any note.
Maybe they have to make a move when Schultz comes off LTIR?

I always wanted Kessel on this team but know it’s next to impossible now, it would have to be Neal + contract like Stone + 1st + prospect and even then I doubt Pittsburgh even looks at it but man Would a Tkachuk/Kessel combination be absolutely deadly.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Kessel
Bennett - Jankowski - Czarnik
Frolik - Ryan - Hathaway
Lazar/Mangiapane

It would be nice if they're getting a head start on scouting potential playoff matchups.

Man I hope Ferland ends up a Leaf. That way we only see our boys play him if the leafs/Flames make the SC finals.

Oh I agree, but I'd love to face him in the playoffs if he is still playing in the East!

To be fair, I'd love to face any all star/fantasy roster in the playoffs, if the team is in the east haha.

Not sure if posted but Lebrun (typically pretty tuned in with the Flames) thinks that both the Jets and Flames will be aggressive. He brings up how close Reaves was to signing here and that gave Treliving the confidence to put Ferland in the Carolina deal. Mentions that Neal is rugged but speculates again on bringing Ferland back.

Lebrun is one of the few guys I really trust with rumours regarding the Flames.

Agreed. He was the first to report Calgary and Carolina were talking about Lindholm, Hanifin, and Hamilton trade talks.
He previously broke the news about Calgary's activity regarding Mike Smith, Hamonic, and the Brouwer signing.
He's easily the best informed insider. Dreger is out to lunch I feel like, and Friedman tends to talk hypothetical situations that might fit, which then get reported as serious rumours.
LeBrun is legit though, and he said in the radio hit that he thinks Calgary will make a "splashy move".

Fine. But if the Flames are giving up a 1st can they also get Mrazek?

To be honest, although it defies most conventions, I'd absolutely love Ryan Reaves on the Flames at some point. Plays with a ton of heart and seems to have found some scoring ability, too. Just wouldn't want it to cost much.

If the Flames somehow acquired Stone and moved enough money to resign him, I would be extremely happy.

Friedman recently said on the 31 Thoughts podcast that he wondered if a big and tough guy, who could play, was a market inefficiency, in the sense of being someone, who other teams don’t have, and who could give a team a competitive advantage because of intimidation. I apologize for the run-on sentence.

Without permission from the Knights, that Reaves information would imply tampering done by the Flames.
Hamilton and Ferland were traded June 23, 2018. Free agency interviewing period began June 24, 2018 this year. They wouldn't have had the opportunity to 'believe they signed' Reaves when Ferland was traded, again without the Knight's approval.

I know Ferland has become the it thing here and around the league as of late, but I have a couple concerns. Firstly, concussion history, and with the playoffs being what it is, can he be the same player from 4 years ago? He's obviously not old, but he seemed bulkier in the past couple seasons. Every year at the deadline someone is the flavor of the month and this year it appears to be him. I have no problem with him as a human, but really am concerned about his playing ability with the concussion history. If we enter the playoffs with this roster intact I'd be fine with it. Neal will be fine in the playoffs. Maybe an addition like Justin Williams would be nice. Smith is my only real concern but it doesn't sound like that will be changed until the off-season.
