He has a multi year contract. The Flames could always deny other teams the opportunity to interview him.

most teams allow as long as it is for a bigger opportunity and timing not an issue from what I recall.

Yeah he would be a difference make for sure, but he is also 2.5 million more than Muzzin....and they are going to be tapped as it is this summer.
More and more it looks like Matthews is going to sign a 5 year deal at 11M or so, which leaves about 11M to sign 4 other RFA's including Marner who will be getting 7 or 8 + himself.
Im not sure how they are going to do it all.

Moving Nylander's salary out in a deal for Pietrangelo would not adversely effect the leafs cap situation... they would actually gain a bit of cap space.

It's usually a pretty bad look if an organization denies its employees the opportunity to pursue a bigger role elsewhere. It reflects poorly on upper management and can impede the procurement of future coaches.

Dubas publically and repeatedly has said he would not move Nylander though. Both before and after he was actually signed.
He painted himself into that corner, but all the same he has to stick to his word or no one else will trust him moving forward.

The Sens would be dumb not to move Duchene. It would hurt to dump him for picks/prospects after what they paid but better than losing him for nothing
At the very least it would get them back into the 1st round of the draft

Agreed. I guess there is also the fact that Dubas did not want to lose a roster player in the trade. I think they are going all-in this year. This is not the last move they will make before the deadline.

I am not sure they will lose him. I think they will try hard to sign him right up until deadline day. If they think they can get it done with a bit more time they hold on to him. If they are sceptical about coming to terms he will definitely get moved.

Duchene requested a trade from Colorado because they were a dumpster fire. Now he's on a team that's at least a top 2 dumpster fire in the league.
If I were Duchene, the amount required to re-sign in Ottawa is much higher than Melnyk would pay.

I'm sure Kadri will be the odd man out. He's also the oldest of that group and part of the old regime. When you have Matthews and Tavares at centre, do you really need a 3rd line centre making $4.5 million aav?
It will be glorious to see Kadri sulk after getting traded from his hometown team.

Except the part where he is has publicly stated multiple times he wants to stay in Ottawa. If he is being honest and I don't see he wouldn't be he should get 8.5-9M/yr from the Sens. Remember, Melnyk can be as big a cheapskate as he wants but there is a cap floor he needs to hit.

Yeah he is obviously a guy who could get dealt, though he has a M-NTC.
Pretty good player too so he should get something decent back.

It sounds like Panarin will be officially on the trade market come deadline time. That could be a game changer to get this team over the hump and into that sure fire "contender" category.
Granted, he would be a pure rental as I can't see him resigning in Calgary, but if the price was right would you make that move to give the Flames an extra boost come playoff time? Might be worth it if we could include Frolik in the deal because A) he does have value and can help Columbus and B) might need to be moved this off season anyways to make room for a new Tkachuk contract.
Maybe something like 1st, Frolik and Kylington? Too much? Too little? I'm also unsure how much Treliving wants to mess with the chemistry of this team. Panarin could anchor our #2 PP.
Gaudreau Monahan Lindholm
Tkachuk Backlund Bennett
Panarin Jankowski Neal
Hathaway Ryan Mangiapane
I know, I know it's a waste of assets to use Panarin on the third line, but I'm sure Peter's could come up with a combination that could work and evenly spread the line up out.

If Kekalainen trades Panarin and risks missing out on the playoffs, then he has to hit a home run with the return. The ONLY way i see that occurring is if the team Panarin goes to has already agreed with him on a contract extension, which obviously, as it stands now. the Flames will not be able to do.
So to the bolded, far to little for CBJ.

Fair point- my only counter argument to that would be why would a team that is expected to have a good chance to sign him this summer overpay for him now? Teams like NYR, LA, Chicago, etc. I guess it is possible that a team like Vegas or SJ could target him as well.
I should also point out I'm just speculating from the latest Lebrun article in the Athletic where he thinks it is likely that Jarmo decides to move him.

Wonder if Tampa would risk their chemistry to go all in with Panarin this year, while also clearing out their cap to help make room for Point and Kucherov's raises for next year.
If you are Tampa would you offer one of Palat or Killorn + 1st + Prospects for Panarin.
Sure you give up a good piece but you also get another elite forward to push you over the top and open up salary for next season.
For Columbus they'd get picks / prospects and a player that can help them right away that's signed long term.
Probably would have made more sense if Tampa was closer to the pack and not just destroying everyone as it is.
