Default Digital SLR Advice

I'm really interested in getting a Digital SLR camera. I've got a Canon A75 right now and it's great for point and shoot and some manual changes, but I kind of want something a little more.

I was looking at the Pentax K100D. Anyone have any experience with it or any recommendations for someone looking for a good beginner D-SLR camera that won't completely break the bank?

Buy a used body and save that money for lenses....your going to notice a lot better pictures coming of a great lens and an average body than vice versa.

Edit: I've never tried the Pentax so that wasn't suppose to be a jab at that...I've shot canon since I've used DSLR's and never had a problem nor have I tried any others.

Ive got a D80 and love it. You can get the pack which gives you a 18-55mm lens for about $1500.

Canon Rebel is the cheaper alternative (by about $500) but i found it was too small for my hands, and felt flimsy and less ruged.

I was just asking my camera-nutty brother-in-law this question at Christmas. I did a lot of research beforehand and, for an entry-level SLR, liked the Nikon D50. Before I could get a word in with my brother-in-law, he immediately recommended the D50 as well. (There's also the slightly-cheaper D40 that was released last month, but I'd still prefer the D50).

A kit with a 18-55mm lens will go for around $900, cheaper on eBay. I have a few purchases that are a higher priority, but I'll be getting this sometime in '07.

I would try to look for a Used XT with a 17-40L lens or a XTi with a 17-85 IS lens.

Depends on your budget I guess...
