Just need a depth D. For depth forward a guy like Lazar should hopefully be able to fill in when needed.

As long as Stone is 100% and gets some games in down the stretch, as would Valamaki, not even that.
Was thinking about it, and an addition of a 2016/17 Versteeg type player would be exactly what we need. Utility player with some experience, grit and skill, a player that can play up and down the lineup, play PP.

So we need 16/17 Neal?

Versteeg-Bennett-Chiasson was an underrated line for us that year. I believe they led us in 5v5 goals in the playoffs and had strong underlyings in the regular season. Sure would be nice to be able to somehow roll
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Panarin-Bennett-Neal
Jankowski-Ryan-Hathaway

Interesting that with a post like this you would be critical of other posts. It is extremely naive to assume that the "all healthy" lines are a reflection of actual line rolling. Peter's has shown that he gets deserving players their ice time. Two injuries in our top 9 suddenly zuccarello formerly on our fourth line doesn't look so stupid.
This post does not condone or condemn picking up zuccarello. I have not watched him enough this year to know if he would he a fit. 2-3 years ago for sure...

Even at his best I don’t think you can call Neal a “utility player who can play up and down the lineup”.

Why do you have to be so abrasive all the time? I don't even know what posts you are referring to and maybe it wasn't a great post but calling people dumb rarely leads to productive discussion.

I'm curious. Why do you keep trying to slot Bennett in the middle, when he has shown he is completely incapable of contributing in that position, and then moving Jankowski to the wing when he plays a solid game in the middle?

How do you go from talking about utility players to adding Panarin to the lineup? One Columbus is not trading him they’re in a playoff position. Second if they did trade him he’s probably tied for Stone as the most expensive rental on the market. That would likely take our first, a minor league player and one of our 3 young D to get it done. Something like Mangiapane and Kylington/Valamaki along with our first.

It's just what he does.
Like Mike Ehrmantraut and threatening people.

Im of the opinion, in regards to the Flames at this point, that there is no 2nd/3rd/4th lines anymore.
Obviously there is a clear cut #1 trio that Peters now doesn't hesitate to put up against the other teams most prolific line, but after that its mix and match depending on who is and isnt feeling it and who is available because of injuries.
Yeah there are a couple guys who will have icetime limited so referring to them as "4th" liners is fine, but otherwise its where ever you are deserving to be.
So in regards to a guy like Zucarello, yes he may slot in originally on a bottom line, but he checks so many boxes (but not one of the main ones imo/seperate discussion) that he will find a spot equal to how he is playing and what he brings on any particular night.
Its a very enviable position to have.

Phil Kessel on the “3rd line” was the dumbest thing I’d ever seen! So stupid that they even got awarded the Stanley Cup!
Not to take a piss, but success comes in long series from being able to roll lines. It’s not about 1st/2nd/3rd/4th - it’s about being able to push the pace and generate chances shift after shift after shift so that you can wear down the opposition and gain favourable match-ups due to the fact that you just have that many capable lines.

Yup, BT and Peters actually talked about this at the beginning of the season. They were saying that the game is changing and how the traditional lines are used have changed as well.

I think Simmonds would have been an amazing pickup...two years ago. I think his trajectory is Mike Richards minus the off ice issues. He is going to get 6M+ per year and it is going to be bad. As a rental he has value but the price is going to be a 1st+ which I don't think we should pay.

Mike Richards helped LA win 2 Stanley cups. Wayne Simmonds does not have a drug problem that anyone is aware of.

This is gold.
When Chicago was good and winning Cups, a large part of the reason was line matchups, and Quennville's ability to find mismatches, generally with their ability to roll 4 lines. Their ability to shut down the opponents best players with either Toews line of the Bolland line allowed Kane's line to generally run amok with favourable matchups.
I think Calgary is starting to find favourable matchups throughout the lineup through having a solid 4 lines.
