I went to Edmonton for the Dec 9 game with a buddy, first time in the new arena. First impression was "Wow this is nice", but then after walking around for a bit I found it to be completely soulless. And now over a month later I can't really remember anything about it other than the stupid expensive beer and what a pain in the ass it was to get around with those one-way escalators that change directions. I've been to malls with more personality than Rogers Place

This 110%. I couldn't put my finger on it when I went there for the first time, but I was underwhelmed with Rogers. The perfect descriptor IS soulless. Zero personality.
It looks awesome from the outside and the bowl is good and all, but the concourse is the lamest most boring place imaginable. Non haters of Edmonton would probably say so too, you'd have to think.

People like the bowl? Boy upper bowl ticket holders are going to be pissed if Calgary’s new stadium’s upper bowl is that high from the ice surface.

I’ve never been and will never go to Rogers so I just watched a tour video on YouTube. Interior looks like the lobby of the running shoe museum. I also see why they went with the white on white with black scheme. So the thing that stands out the most are the exits signs.
Thank god that’s not an airport. Imagine having a layover there.

I hope someone at the Allstar game sitting in the front row has a sign saying Hey Connor you should try the water here. I guess Lowes shower water has contaminated all the city reservoirs.

Of course it will be, maybe even higher as a much bigger lower bowl for higher ticket prices is the #1 reason they want a new building.
If you think Edmonton is bad you should see the Bell Center in Montreal, their lower bowl is the 100 and 200 levels combined as there is no 200 level

I know I'm way, way back in this thread, but just regarding the OP, the title always makes me happy & gives me a laugh haha ("there's something in the water"). If you genuinely don't know what the problem is, it's probably you..but nobody tell them so they keep this charade up a few more years..

I'm sure some other city will think of this first, but on April 6th, when the Flames beat the Oilers on the last game of the season, I want the Dome to crank that song 'Something in the Water' as the Oilers are trudging to their dressing room, and the Flames are still on the ice celebrating going to the post season.

You mean when the Flames's AHL affiliate beats the Oilers NHL roster while the NHL Flames rest up and get ready for a long playoff run?

Touche. It should just be the goal song for every opposing arena the Oilers play in for the rest of the season.

It feels like an IOC Olympic stadium for sure. Very minimal non bias and clean.
Oiler fan I was with was telling me that they made it that way so the could project on the walls and did so for playoffs few years back.
Question is why they don’t do that evey game then. It is super drab in there. Much like the “improved” Devonian Gardens.

I just checked it out. That has to be the most bland and sterile arena in the NHL. It's like some pre-fab dystopian hospital cafeteria. You can almost hear propaganda playing from a loud speaker.
For a new building, it is awful.
