I was thinking about how crappy some commercials are ..and how there is nothing worse than watching a show/movie and having to sit through commericials. But sometimes 1 comes along that leaves you laughing and waiting to see it again.

So what is your favorite commercial? Past or Present?

I'd have to say mine is the Budweiser frogs. Still don't remember a commercial crossing over like that one did..very funny!

I've only seen this one once, but it's for Juicy Fruit, and a guy's eating it, and people keep on popping out cleverly disguised as different office furniture chasing him down for it.

A rarely seen FedEx TV commercial - I've only seen it three times - but it has me rolling in aisle. Difficult to describe though, almost one of those you have to see to get the picture.

Just some office guys talking with deep voices and playing this COMPLETELY over the top:

"If we use this other carrier, this package will never get to Chicago in time!! We'll be . . . DOOMED."

"Dooomed!!"

"Doomed!!"

"Doomed!!"

Three other guys in succession, halting in their tracks and echoing what the first guy said.

Completely over the top.

On another note, one of the best advertising slogans ever, Volkswagon being introduced into the USA market in the 1950's with: "From the wonderful people who brought you World War II . . . . "

Of the current commercials on air now, I really like the one for some tile cleaner with the Mother in an orange jump suit behind glass (prison style) with her Daughter on the other side asking her "when are you getting out of here?", the Mothers replies very emotional "I don't know baby...", as they cut to the product and say something like spend less time scrubbing the bath tub or something like that.

Very clever.

I have no idea why, but the opening to that Kokanee commercial that played time and time again during the playoffs cracks me up.

I love the way the dude in the obscenely large yellow glasses says 'Ding dong...' as the babes walk through the door.

I have NO idea why...

Another hilarious one - for me anyway - is the new commercial from Dairy Queen for their Brownie Fudge concoction.

It opens with a sorrowful guy talking with a lisp: "It all started one day when my wife was making fudge brownies . . . ."

And the scene switches to the kitchen where this guy is picking up a mixmaster covered in brownie dough and putting the blades to his tongue with his finger on the trigger. . . . .

The scene fades to the outside of the house and his screams.

Then we see him eating one of the new Dairy Queen fudge brownie ice cream treats which is "very soothing."

Another: the smarties commercial where a guy's eating the red ones first. The second guy says "hey, you're eating the red ones first. aren't you supposed to eat them last?"

first guy says "yeah, but yesterday I tried eating them first, and you know Vanessa from Finance? She walked by my office yesterday"

"so?"

"she never walks by my office"

the two look at eachother and yell "HELLO!" while giving a high five.

I'm impressed with the new WineGums commercial...the scratched car one.

I can't figure out why Tim Horton's doesn't fire its ad agency. For 2 years now they have had the WORST commercials on TV. They are so tacky. The new Patio Lanterns one is so bad that it is funny...everyone of them makes me cringe.

The Cat herding commercial from the Superbowl a few years ago is my absolute all time fav. I have no idea what the company is, but it's a classic. The funniest part has to be the wrinkled, hard ass cowboy showing off his "wounds" from a previous herding, then showing a bunch of cats in trees, swimming across rivers, and running across the prairies. Hilarious!!

Aw, that's the editted version.

The better, uneditted version actually shows the guy with his tongue caught in the blender beaters with lots of screaming, close-up shots of him, close-up shots of his wife screaming hysterically, etc. I love it because it's so over the top.

You can still see the commercial on some American networks in its uneditted form. I only got to see the original a few times on Canadian television. I bet some over protective mothers saw the original and figured it would traumatize their children so they called to protest.

I love those Ford (focus?) commercials from the UK. The ones where a cat gets its head chopped off by the sunroof and the pigeon gets hit with the hood.

"What is NO, Alex"

That Jeopardy/Holiday Inn Express is one of my faves of all time.

Also that "it's OK, I had subway" commercial where the guy tackles the old man, and then the guy says the catch line, to which the old man throws the football at the guys junk and says "second down, junior" or something to that effect.

Oh, and the Homer Simpson Mastercard commerical is sweet too.

In terms of recent commercials, I've always loved the cereal ones with the guy trying to impersonate British chef Jamie Oliver. I find the imitations just hilarious.

There was a good tennis-themed commercial on Radio-Canada (French CBC) that I saw last week during the tennis tournament in Toronto. The camera pans back and forth following the ball as each player hits the ball to the other side of the court. In the background, you see the sponsors' advertisement boards, specifically ones for Desjardins (a financial institution in Quebec). All of a sudden you hear: "What the heck is Desjardins?"(said in a very anglophone way, mind you), and the line is subtitled in French on the botton of the screen. I, personally, found it very funny.

at the unedited Dairy Queen commerical.

Like someone said about, that lady cleaning the tub one is pretty clever.

I also laugh every time the Heineken commercial is on, with the guy and his gf laying on his shoulder, while he's holding a beer. He goes on to say "I love you," but it seems like he's struggling to say it, and in the end she turns over to him and he grabs the beer with the other hand. "It's all about the beer." Funny stuff.

On another note, I want to smash my TV everytime I see those Juicy Fruit commercials with that dude playing the guitar. Is the sole purpose of that ad to annoy the hell out of you? Maybe I just don't get it, but those commercials make absolutely no sense to me.

I love that Diet Coke commerical with that lady who has to give that presentation, and notices that she has that ripped pantyhose, and she takes it off not knowing that the people in the other room can see her.

"You guys have a great view up here"

A classic!

I heard on the radio today this ad for Pilsner talking about a free give-away and at the end, the announcer guy says "if you are under legal drinking age, or don't drink Pilsner, you probably don't care about this. Hey, we don't care about you either". Awesome. Almost makes me want to drink Pilsner...almost

I hear ya dude, but the worst commercials by a massive company here in Canada has to be McCain. For the past 15 years those commercials have been super low budget and just painful to watch. Like the guy playing music with those glasses full of juice with that chick playing the violin in Toronto.

Or how about re-hasing the "strong silent type" kid? I don't think I ever asked myself, "I wonder what that quiet kid from the McCain's commercials is up to?" His kid looks just as dumb.

Or the other painful McCain's commercial can be summed up to 2 words: Elvis Stoyko.
