Or players that hate being rushed back from injury. (Souray, Comrie)
Or players that try to maximize their career earnings after having their teeth kicked for the franchise. (Smyth)
Or players that quietly ask for a trade mid-season then are demonized and vilified after leading the team to the Stanley Cup Final. (Pronger)
Or players that just need to “make a save”. (Dubnyk)
Or players that were handed privilege without accountability by 7/5 coaches in 5/3 seasons. (Hall, Yakopov)

Blues are leading 3-1... one more period and if they win, Oilers fall another spot with another team between them and the last playoff spot.

Love the entitled opinions by Bobby Nick. A guy entitled to a name sake food product at Rogers Place, since they won’t ever fire him and need to rename that product. Then there is MacTipsy and Klown both entited to their jobs by winning some cups 30 years ago.
Oh and Katz kid entitled to appearing at every draft becuase his daddy owns the team.
Entitled media and fans that feel where a player is drafted is where that player is entitled to be in performance. Sorry RNH is a second liner no matter where he is drafted.
Now they are entitled to a elite GM who will right the ship, becuase well they are just entitled to that.
This is the root of the issue.
Edmonton is no good becuase they think they are all entitled to be good.

After that press conference performance, they need to fire Bob as well. Hell... I don’t really believe that, I have always thought that they needed to fire the whole lot of them (Lowe, Bob, and MacT for starters).
That “water” comment was a real piece of work - nicely done Bob, that is going to haunt him for awhile.

Privilege breeds entitlement.
They were privileged in the 80’s.
They have been entitled ever since.

I actually have Oiler fan friends who think that Katz can just get anyone to accept the GM job with all his money.... and with the lure of having McDavid on his team - Yzerman is his choice. I told him that Yzerman won’t go near Edmonton and that mess, Yzerman is going to Detroit if anywhere.

Would Seattle trade it’s expansion team draft for Edmonton?
I think they would because McDavid long term as the face of the franchise would be good for business. Would the oilers?

To be fair, RNH is a decent 2nd line centre. Where the silliness lies is how so many oiler fans refer to him as one of ‘the best defensive centre men in the game’ which is just hilariously inaccurate. Actually came across a poll on Twitter by an oilers page with a decent number of followers non ironically asking if you’d rather have RNH or Gaudreau. Everything Oilers is No Good

After tonight's games, the bottom 3 teams in the Western Conference are Edmonton, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
Remember the 2006-07 season? The bottom 4 teams in the West were Edmonton, Chicago, LA, and Phoenix. Since then, Chicago and LA have won a combined 5 Stanley Cups. The Oilers have picked first overall 4 times.
The Kings and Hawks have both successfully climbed the mountain and returned to basecamp. Meanwhile, the Oilers are still trying to figure out which foot their boots go on.

I'm curious who these players who are the problem are. It isn't a bottom line guy whose on the cusp of being out of the NHL forever.
Is it young guys like Nurse and Draisaital?
Is it Talbot, Kassian or Nuge?
Lucic?
But i'm willing to give McDavid a pass.
|
Why do you think McDavid is a leader? And why are you willing to give him a pass?
Is it because he skates fast and makes dazzling plays at high speeds?
I wonder if a big part of the problem is that too many people for too long have been happy to overlook McDavid’s flaws because of his exceptional physical gifts, and little else.

Heck, even the Coyotes were good for a while. They went to the Conference Final!
Edmonton... yikes.

No.... because they think they have something. If Edmonton could just unilaterally cancel and modify contracts, it wouldn’t be all that bad. They have no cap space and several very bad contracts that will hold them back for years. Even McDavid is overpaid.
Cancel Lucic, Larsson, Sekera, and Manning - that’s over 17 million
Lower McDavid to 11, Draisaitl to 6, Russell to 3, Koskinen to 3 - that’s 6.5 million
Don’t resign Talbot, Petrovic - that’s 6 million.
That’s 30 million .... now.... you can sign some good players.
Without that power... this will be a long process for any new GM they hire. They don’t have the skill and players that Bob thinks they have.

I totally agree.... why was McDavid named the captain? Just because you’re the best player on the team, that does not automatically make you a great leader. He needed to earn that ‘C’ and they just entitled him it. I actually think someone like Lucic would have been better - I think he’d (Lucic) would be a different player with that roll... and less pressure on Connor, who seems shy (not a leader - at least yet).

Logic and reason do not exist in their fantastical world.
I would imagine the salary cap is probably the last consideration they make in options for trade proposals.

No, he really isn't. Crosby, Gio, Getzlaf, Toews, Iginla...those are leaders. McDavid has a long way to go before he's even considered in the same category as guys like that.
He's an extremely gifted hockey player, no question. But he also wilts under pressure and gets easily rattled when things aren't going his team's way, or when opposing players get in his grill.
He's also very lazy defensively, and I noticed he tends to give up on plays easily. That's not leader material. The kid still has a lot to learn about being a captain in this league.
