I honestly wonder how much of a fuse Oiler fans can even have left.

Those tuning in to this presser hoping for some glimmer to cling to must feel completely defeated.

Putting myself in their shoes, if this clown show was running the Flames for this past decade or so with no end clearly in sight, I'm afraid I'd be pulling the plug on any further support from a fan perspective.

It's beyond bad. And embarrassing to have them apart of the NHL.

You'd think this would be a good thing that Chia was fired for Oilers fans. But listening to this press conference is proof that they are going nowhere fast.

There is no intellectual honesty up there. They believe they can make the playoffs because they've had some good stretches this year? You mean the one stretch of wins that you guys reeled off after a coaching change? Something that has a proven history of happening after a new coach comes in? Take that stretch away and Oilers are probably dead last in the league outside of 10 games.

Be honest with the fans. I hate the Oilers, but man do I feel bad for their fans because having spent a lot of time in Edmonton, the people there are great and love their team just as much as we do. I remember the way I felt when the Flames were the laughing stock of the league having traded Iggy and Bouw for peanuts, being unable to trade Cammalleri or Kipper for any future help, and the whole ROR fiasco. It was not fun.

That "there's something in the water" comment is a historic moment. I'm happy that I heard it live.

Totally late for a meeting, but could not turn this off. So much gold to unpack.

That presser really needed a viewing party.

Nicholson tells Principe that the decision ultimately started after the Calgary game.

The Flames are Oiler personnel killers.

Props for using YouTube to stream the presser. Guess their tech guy is the smartest one in the system. He should be GM.

This press conference was truly a master class in mixed-messaging.

Bob Nicholson proclaims that ...
· the players are good enough. They have shown that they can win in this League and believe in themselves to be successful.
· the prospect base is deep and loaded with up-and-coming top-end talent.
· there is nothing wrong with the roster that only a few minor adjustments can fix, and they expect to be in the playoffs this Spring.

... but the General Manager who constructed this excellent roster that is only a few "tweaks" away, and who put together the impressive collection of prospects in the Oilers system needed to be fired in the middle of a game.

This was idiotic.

As a Flames fan, that was all quite reassuring. They don't even realize that the problem lies higher than the coach, whatever GM they install, etc. They genuinely don't understand it.

Basically the old boys club saying "there is no old boys club" and then installing an interim GM with a famous brother from the old boys club while they old boys club searches for a new puppet that will answer to the old boys club.

But there is no old boys club. Got it.

Keep bringing in the ex-oilers. They are NOT the problem ;-)

They fired the coach and GM after losses to Calgary, not hard to connect the dots.

We might have to take it easier on them in the last game, otherwise they might actually fire the right people.

I still can't believe he verbally killed one of their players in public like that. He's an oiler but I feel for Cam Talbot.
