Why would LV even think about allowing the Oil to talk with McCrimmon? They're competing with them as a divisional rival. *(Yes - as a "good" corporate employer I understand...at the end of the year.)

Was hoping for one more trade deadline so Chia could trade the last couple of assets for magic beans.

I wonder if this means that there wont be much trade movement for oilers next month? I would think K. Gretzky would get taken town if trading good assets. This could be a way for Oilers to spin that a new GM came in and needed more time to make these kind of trades.

Does anyone know if the Flames wanted to bring him on as a pro scout after the all star break would they need permission? Also if the Flames ended up winning the cup would Chia get a ring if he joined?

Any good GM candidate will avoid the position like the plague but if any do take an interview, they'll likely tell Katz and co that it'll take 4 or 5 years to rebuild.

That won't be good enough for Katz so when lowe tells him he knows a thing or two about winning and that 4-5 years is nonsense, they'll high five and then agree that, since he's been on stage at the draft more than any of the GM candidates, Katz son must know more about GMing, and gets the job.

Seriously though, i am not sure who they would want that job... its a tire fire right now, so you'd have to get some kind of guarantee from Katz about having sufficient time to turn things around.

right now, that job is a career killer imo... better to wait for another job that gives you a legit chance to succeed.

Any competent prospective GM, when they tell Katz it’ll take 4-5 years to unwind the mess and build the team back up to a competitive state will walk away when Katz tells him they must make the playoffs next year.

Hitch was pretty cheery in the midst of another losing streak after Koskinen signed that terrible contract. I didn't get the impression that Chia was involved in that whole thing one bit, and the GM position helps the whole 'coming out of retirement' make more sense.

I'm pretty excited of that signing was a preview of things to come, and if that was the "we got this now, Chia" move we can expect from this organization going forward... we could be in for a wild ride.

This Trade Deadline is going to be fun!
