Isn't that the truth .. I hardly ever watch TV anymore .. Oh well, I guess there are better things to do with my time but it would be nice if there was actually something decent on (that's NOT reality TV) and to be able to sit in front of the TV and veg once in awhile.

Seems to be a lot of whining about grocery stores. My grievance is people who bitch and moan over every little thing.

It's life! Get over it!
I'm not complaining about the guy with 17 items. There are people who have a full frickin cart in the express line, and the poor cashier probably can't say a damn thing. I usually say quite loudly "I didn't know I was in the 47 items or less line." At least I get a laugh out of it.

Really? I do. Some things just aren't that big of a deal, and if people would just calm down, and realise that 20 seconds lost is not that big of a deal, then you'd have a lot less whining, which would be better for everyone.

Example, people paying with debit over cash. Honestly, the time difference is like 10-15 seconds.

"But what if the line up is big Mr.Coffee? Then it would take 5 minutes"

Oh dear. It's not like it's going to change. People always will pay with debit, especially now more then ever. Complaining is only ever useful when you can change something, but most time complaining in public just makes you look like a whiny bitch, that people don't want to listen to. If your going to do it, at least be funny about it, like habernac does in the express lane.

We've got it pretty good in Canada, sometimes people take their lives here for granted. Sometimes things people here consider "inconvenience" would be another people's "convenience". For example, many people can't afford to purchase the food at a grocery store, let alone bitch about the method with which said purchase is made.

Well I don't take anything for granted and I don't whine or bitch in public. I call people out via stories like my dad in his truck at Home Depot. I do crap like that all the time. I really don't care about the little things like paying with debit, its the blatantly incosiderate crap that drives me nuts.

Example #2. Driving home from hockey the other morning, a chick pulls out of the Tims parking lot trying to get to the far left turn lane, but the traffic is backed up too far because of the red light so she stops, blocking the right turn lane that I am in, and continues to talk on her cell phone. So I sat there with my hand on the horn until she backed up. Thats just plain rude of her and I will not "get over it". I will, however, ruin her phone call.

My new gripe is those self checkouts as well. Just because there is no cashier right there to police how many items you have in your basket, doesn't mean that you can take your three shopping carts full of stuff through there.

Just before Christmas I went to Wal-Mart late at night to pick up a few things. Went to stand in line and there were no less than three people with three shopping carts totally full of Christmas presents in the self checkout lanes - Use the cashier!

I actually saw the express checkout guy in Safeway kick out this customer who was trying to buy two bushels of lettuce in the 15 items or less lane. (He claimed to have less than 15 heads of lettuce, but there probably wasn't even enough space on the counter to bag and place them all.)

What was funny was that this guy was so completely defensive about his constitutional right to buy his 15 heads of lettuce in the express lane, and refused to move to another line. The cashier was like "fine sit here", "I'm not running you through". It turned into one of those passive aggressive verbal, basketballeque, slap fights that inevitably end up with the customer storming off to find the "manager". The real kicker is that the store was not busy at all, there were like three lanes completely open.

Which brings me to my next gripe, the "Trainee" cashiers at Safeway. I know they have to get these people up to speed, and they are not exactly able to pick from a large field of excellent candidates to fill these jobs, but damn, it took us 45 minutes last time to get through checkout. Every single vegetable was a 5 minute ordeal!

I couldn't disagree more and have no idea how anyone could feel that way. There are so many quality shows on right now, it really is a golden age of television.

The Wire, Deadwood, BSG, Lost, Studio 60, The Office, Heros, The Daily Show, Scrubs, 24, Friday Night Lights, Big Love - all great shows. Too many to watch in fact.

Add to that great shows on Discovery, TLC and OLN like Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, Survivorman, and on and on.

Dear god man there is so much good TV right now its crazy.

well maybe i've changed i guess.

tv - eh used to watch it but less so nowadays.

since it's something i consider worth less of my time than before then it's still a gripe of mine.

the daily show i used to see as very edgy, but when CFR stooges like gary hart and henry kissinger are glorified and treated like debutantes in between how 'screwed up' iraq is and how the republicans are just a bunch of redneck idiots and the democrats haven't contributed to any of this, well i feel like i just may throw up.

HR 5122 passed the senate 100-1 ! yep, no democrats voted for that!

tv, we had some good times but it's time to say goodbye.

No, used in plural form, it's fine. An earlier poster grieved the use of "Safeways" in singular form. As in, "Honey, I'm going to Safeways to pick up some smokes and milk."

Just a little (not-so-funny) joke.

New grievance: People who order 4+ coffees "to go" at Tim Hortons, all with different ingredients. You'll never get all that crap right, and it takes the cashier forever to make up the order, causing a huge lineup. Make them all black, take a handful of sugars, sweeteners, and creamers and make your lazy co-workers assemble their own coffee. Plus, good luck trying to get all that mess back to your car in one piece.

And people who order 4 dozen donuts and take 5 minutes to individually choose all of the donuts: pick the 2 that you are going to eat, and just make the rest "assorted" already.

OK, I have an issue with this. First of all, when I am buying donuts for the guys, just because I'm not eating all of them doesn't mean I don't want the other people to enjoy them. Second, when I bring the donuts back to the office I usually let everybody else take first pick. If I get 2 good ones and then assorted for the rest, my good ones will be the first grabbed.

However, all that being said, picking out a bunch of donuts shouldn't take that much time.

Okay, just to add some "international" flavour to this discussion, I will list my grievances about being a Canadian living in England:

1. Coffee - I don't need many things in this world to be happy, but a decent cup of coffee is one of them. I know that you Brits like your tea and everything, but seriously... figure out how to brew a proper cuppa joe!!! And while you are at it, figure out that people need CREAM in their coffee... not milk (I know someone already mentioned this).

2. Television license laws!! What the heck is this rubbish?! There is NO WAY I am going to spend 140 pounds for six months of BBC1, 2 and 3.

3. I am NOT am American. Stop asking me.

4. It is called "hockey", not "ice hockey".

That is all... FESTIVUS FOR THE REST OF US!!!

OK, my grievance is people who park backwards in parking stalls at shopping centers. Then, when they come back to their car, they try to navigate their shopping carts between the cars to get to their trunks. Especially at places like Costco, Superstore, Home Depot where you know you have to put stuff in your trunk when you are done. Some loser once sratched and gouged my car doing this... even left the shopping cart behind as evidence. Hey, and why are people so lazy in this city that they can't put their shopping carts away when they are done... at least get them out of the friggin' way so they are not blocking a stall.

On the grocery-related front, one thing that frosted my cojones was when I had 8-10 items and I was in the express lane at Safeway. There was a scuzzy-looking guy standing behind me holding one lemon. He started snorting and breathing gaspily, and I knew he was wanting me to let him ahead of me. Usually I let people ahead of my if they only have a couple of things and I have quite a bit more. Finally, this guy blurts, "Hey, man, I only have one thing, let me in front, eh?" I relent, and let the guy get in front of me. When the guy gets to the cashier, he hands her the lemon and tells her he needs an pack of Export A unfiltered. The cashier had to leave her post and wait in line at customer service to get his smokes! The guy turned to me with a smirk, daring me to say something. Well, say something I did, and quite noisily. I thought it bad form on his part.

Let me clarify the whole "safeways" fiasco.

I too get annoyed, however when Oilersbaby used it she was using it in plural form, such as "all the the california safeways" as opposed to "all the california safeway" which doesn't make any sense.

people who call safeway "safeways" are saying "safeway's" as in possessive, as in the store belongs to someone/thing named safeway.

make sense?

I cant believe you felt obligated to let him through in the first place. If I'm in line I expect to remain in that position in the line. I don't care if someone has a smaller load than me.

So it would appear that your grievance is people airing their grievances on the internet.
